I know it doesn't come out until the yard, but what is your opinion of what you've seen from previews, trailers ect., thus far? I actually saw it on Tues. and was awfully dissapointed. It was a mix of You Got Served and DrumlineI. don't want to spoil anything, but for me it was definitely a let down.

Ummm...I was very disappointed in this movie! After all the hype, I just expected more from it esp. when it comes to steppin'. But I suppose I'm a bit more traditional.

I haven't seen it yet, but I heard there was more dancing than stepping.

It was one of the worst movies ever... mostly because it had such potential to be better with a little more work, but also because it didn't do the greek system ANY justice... whatever tho... At least I can still watch School Daze on VHS/DVD... cuz thats what I did after seeing STY... I went to go do some service, to reassure myself that my organization was not trivialized by the pythons or the werewolves, and then watched a bunch of Step Show tapes and School Daze...

Saw it the other day... definitely worth checking out. I do agree that it had the potential to be more - it seemed like the focus was almost entirely upon preparing for the step show, and references to the purposes of those organizations (brotherhood & service) were added as an afterthought. The actual routines were more dancing than stepping, but still well done. Not to mention the allusions to some of the "traditions" that only hbcu students would recognize. Even so, I hope that movies like this would get students to consider attending a HBCU who may not have thought of it.

It was a good movie, it had a better story line than ygs(pointless) This movie had a lot of lessons in it outside of the stepping and dancing! It did make me me miss being at an HBCU, but i'm trying to go back for Grad school.

Yea Stomp the Yard was good for entertainment of course a Hollywood movie can't capture the true essence of a fraternity and stepping but it did shed some light. The scene when he visited Heritage Hall was kinda good the director really stepped the whole movie's game up. But yea it did at the same time leave a false pretense about stepping they really arent all YOU GOT SERVERD-ISH like STY depicted but YOU GOT SERVED moves and Megan Good and Chris Brown... thats what sales... and thats what keeps audiences coming so it had to be some of that so the movie could make money. the movie was okay it wasnt bad but it wasnt great either and its timing was bad it kinda was in a Pursuit of Happyness/Dreamgirls shadow so it didnt live up to those expectations.
