Hotep, Peace and Blessing unto you and your whole household IT was a sad day on Friday May 26th 2004 at 11am est. I looked into my mail box and there was a letter from a very respected school in the Midwest. The Letter said that I had been accepted and that was all I needed to see. I said well HBCU haven't done their Job and now It's time to fire them and let the Predominantly White Colleges do what they do best!!! I gave Wilberforce a Try but they failed, mess up my Money, and won't call me back. I have to get a deferments on my loan because they didn't tell Sallie Mae I was in school . Drama that all that they have cause me! They didn't have summer school. The dorms look like a prison. So, I had to Jump ship and Next Fall I will be Attending Otterbein College in Westerville, Oh it a suburb of Columbus. The bill is steep at $27,000 at year and about $700-$800 in books but I done my homework(this time) it's worth every penny. I trying to go to GRAD School and If I would have stayed at the WU I wouldn't feel prepared. Sad but the Truth! I will miss some of my friends I told them they seemed sad but I told a few that I would visit them when school start back. GOOD BYE HBCU And HELLO PWI The Prince

I think what many people forget about college, is that college is more than just text books and living in the very best dorms, and the nasty cafeteria food. It is about having the black experience, and gaining more maturity, and learning life lessons, etc.

If you believe that you will receive a better education at a PWI, please let it be on YOUR terms and not because of one bad experience at a HBCU. Hopefully, you've weighed EVERYTHING going into making that decision and if so, and you still believe it's the best thing for you...I'm happy for you! I believe it's not so much HBCUs vs. PWIs, but rather where you believe that YOU need to be. So good luck with any and everything you intend to pursue. P.S. I hope you won't forget about HBCUs though...maybe one day you can return to one and right what you think may be going wrong. Peace and good luck!

cosigns wit prince** due to financial concerns (XU is f*cking wit my bill gates money) and due to change of major... i myself will no longer be at an HBCU in the fall 2004, unless i change my mind... but otherwise... i will be leaving XAVIER and going to DUKE UNIVERSITY!! it wont be that bad...there are plenty of HBCUs around DUKE, so i will def be hittin those up but still....HAIL ALL HAIL XU!!!!!!!!!

I must agree with Jazzy07. If you feel that the switch will be what you need to do in order to achieve your goals then I wish you the best of luck. I personally don't feel that HBCUs are better than PWI and vice versa. It all depends on the individual. As long as you are still going strong it doesn't matter where you do it.

true, true. I had thought about going to a PWI (VCU) earlier this year. I had gotten accepted and all, but the peeps started to look out for a brotha (as far as financially and whatnot). To me it wasn't about the way the living conditions were (even though they were less than adequate), it was about a free education. Plus I woulda lost hella credits.

^^Yes VCU is stingy wit they money.....if a HBCU offered me a free ride-hell i hop right on it...but as far as PWI's go.....VCU is not a bad school for a black person to go to. But to each his own
