Im from Cali where there are no HBCUs. So, I dont really know all that much about Sorors and Frats. However, at least 5 of my friends including me will be attending college in the fall and we want to know whats the deal. Some of them are thinking about pledging.I mean from TV I get mixed messages. Like I see the sisterhood and brotherhood as a positive for blacks and it can bring us closer. Then we I be seeing all the hazing and disrespecting and what not I dont know what to think. So, basically what are the good Soror and Frats groups out there and what they stand for? Will my college life be better if I try to join sorority?Should I date frat? Help me because Im in the dark. Bring me to the light.
P.S. Not sure if it makes a difference but my friends are going to Clark and Im going to Southern University Baton Rouge so are the sororities any different because they're different schools or what?
Ms. Tamisha IGNORE all these rude a** black folk, my advice would be to go to the protocol section first and proceed from there. You will bump into rude mean spirited people like this in college so try and deal with it the best you can girl, Keep your head up!
no, I beg of you...do NOT IGNORE the things that I have stated to you. Believe it or not, the things that I stated was advice...and in a tone that was quite neutral (not with the intention of mean or spiteful). Back in the day when this board was more active with Greeks, some of the responses that you would have gotten would have been waaaaaaaaaay worse...TRUST ME.
Everything in life is a learning lesson. We all have to learn some how. I didn't know all the answers, and yes...i've have acted out of ignorance in the past. But I didn't get to where I am by ignoring advice and not learning from my mistakes. Be happy that one of yours occured on the internet, instead of in person...everyone hasn't been so lucky (myself included)
Like I stated before, google is a good start (or any search engine for that matter). You can enter "Black Sororities & Fraternities" and find a plethora of information. Check out the official website for each org. and you will begin to find some of the info that you are looking for. Hope that helps some...
Pinkz-Hold that thought pink! I didnt say like damn im just soror clueless! I just wanna know what the fuss is about. By the way the name aint lil girl its Tamisha. Aint nothing little aroung besides yo frame of a mind. The only dumb question is the one you dont ask.
Jamaican Shawty- Trust me Im far from a follower so I would never do it just because my friends doing it that aint me. I follow the beat to my own drum. And Im not embarrassed I just simply didnt know that much so I asked. I was told Charles Drew was a community college not that that would me it wouldnt count as HBCU.I didnt mean the light like let me join a sorority I meant like what are the all about. I mean theres so many different ones I just wondered why? Im not embarrassed for seeking knowledge.Especially, about my people at that.
Pryncezz i didnt intend on being rude but if u look at the stickies in the begginin of the greek forum u would see prospect and protocol by akatude and that would give u the best info u need right now on your approach.....newhoz its not about the fact that you asked a question about the sisterhood of sorrorities its simply the manner in which u did it which seemed like you aint no didly squat about it and came on here to here by word of mouth but just know that no greek will answer your question like that its one of things like i said b4 is for you to find out on ur own...beefin isnt neccesary u prolly aint no but for future references.... there u go
Blutifully Human- Im happy you wrote me back and gave me an better understanding. I'll take it for advice and not criticism. Thank you. Lord knows my intention was never to come on here and disrespect any of the sisterhoods of sororities or cause an uproar. I just wanted some answers. In which you've helped me to be able to find on my OWN.I will google the information you've suggested.
Jamaican Shawty-OK, thanks for clearing that up.I was under the impression at first that it was a problem because I asked about sororities and fraternities. Well you've been helpful.Oh no beefing girl not at all. Im sure that wasnt your intent or mine.I will make it a must to go read the prospect and protocol.
I knew I could come on here and get some type of advice even if it took a little lesson to be learned first. Thanks for the learning lesson ladies, I appreciate it.
Yeah i'm feelin what KoKo said. If I were interested in a sorority or whatever I would no longer be interested because of stank **** attitudes like that. I thought it was about sisterhood and leadership and helpin out one another as blk people. Not insulting someone because they are simply ignorant to something. She didnt know but she's trying to learn and you put her down for that, why? I say step up and think back to when you were a prostpect and had no clue on what u should be doing & who you should be talking to. Grow up and actually be about what your organizations are SUPPOSED to be about. GET A LIFE!!!
Been down this road before (glancing at Blutifully Human ) - - >discretion discretion discretion. Won't ever forget that one.Anywho, keeping ones mouth shut and eyes open is definitely a good thing. Some things are best learned through experiences. One such experience would be raising kids. I didn’t come with any manual and despite all the advice and suggestions my parents received from friends and family, they learned through experiences how to go about rearing me and caring for me. Once you get into the school of your choosing I’m sure all of your questions will be answered. Until then I wish you luck in your school endeavors, whatever they may be.
