I've had friends with relaxers who tried to get me to do some of these styles on their hair and it was an absolute nightmare lol. But like I said, it really just depends on which style it is and what look you are going for. However, I don't think you should really have much of a problem And thanks for the additional pics Evy! You did a good job on that straw set, and ya hairstylist deserves many kudos for that rod set...it looks so shiny and healthy. Oh, and I feel ya pain on those bantu knots and having to part your own hair. Imagine my frustrations when I decided to do this style on my own head... the pic that inspired my experiment. Even those these are cornrows and a twist out, I decided to do flat double strand twists and a twist out. I noticed that u are a fellow Bison, and I know u said u do alot of your own styling, but do u ever or have u ever gotten yours done professionally and if so, do u know of any good salons in the DC area. Being that it'll be my first time getting this done, I kinda wanna do it right and then I can go from there.

Yeah, i've been to a couple of places (literally lol). I've found that alot of people on the east & in the south have relaxers (because of humidity), so many of the hairstylists out here didn't know how to do that hardcore press that I was used to. However, my freshman year I went to this hair salon that my friend would go to that was a lil futher down Georgia Ave (towards Silver Spring, MD.). The women who work there are a bit older, so they tend to do those tight grandma curls lol, however, they can press their tails off. So when my friend and I would leave, we'd just yank those curls down IMMEDIATELY lol...but were still grateful for a good ole school press. However, a salon that i've gone to that does great styling AS WELL as a great press is Salon Essence on U street (across the street from the U st/cardoza metro stop). Demetrius and Thomas work there and both of them can work the HECK out of a ceramic flat iron, but Demtrius was my stylist. It was the first time that I didn't have a pressing comb used to straighten my hair, and the press literally lasted me for WEEKS (mind you i have very thick hair and I sweat easily in the scalp area). Alot of HU women go to them, so i'd definately say you are in save hands with either one of em As for getting natural hairstyles done professionally, i have yet to do that. Just mainly because i'm cheap and I figure why pay someone else for something that I could just do on my own lol. Granted, i do have my own stove, pressing combs, and flat iron, but it's just something about the way a professional hooks up a press. Not sayin I would never let a professional do natural hairstyles on me, but i'd just have to wait until my pockets were a lil fatter lol. There are definately a plethora of salons in the area that specialize in it tho. Trust, you'll see ALOT of handbills on campus for different salons in the area
