There are soooo MANY rumors about FAMU it's ridiculous so now lets get the real truth out..
1.) FAMU is a fashion show, dont go if you aint got nothin to show!
2.) DORMS ARE WHACK, there is nothin to offer at FAMU
3.) They steal your money, so watch out finiancial aid users
4.) [ my favorite one!] FAMU is FULLLL of ****!
TRUE or FALSE yall....
I mean all of them rumors are the common stereo types that have plagued HBCU's for years..this is my third year at FAMU, and nothing cease to amaze me about the stereotypes that people always have on HBCU's. I mean if you got your head on your shoulders and no your real reason why your comming to FAM then you shouldn't have to worry bout them stereotypes, as far as paperwork is concerned make sure you put your student ID number and your name on every paper you send to the Administrators at FAMU, also you might want to make a copy of everything you send to FAMU so if some kind of way it gets lost you can prove to them that you did send it in...also very important NEVER PROCASTINATE please don't wait be on point with everything like you fafsa, your registration....all this stuff cause i tell you if when it comes August and you aint got your stuff together you will be in long lines with an headache trust me i know i've been here some time and im always on point bout mine
I mean i love FAMU, I'm not going to sell you a false story it does take some time to getting use too. Like me for instance I had never been to Tallahassee, or stepped foot on FAMU's campus until i came during the summer of 2005 and experienced TOPS(total orientation for parents and students) and didn't know that this dang school really do sit on a bunch of hills, so walking too and from class have to take some time getting use too especially since your from the 305. The administrators they're not the nicest in the world, but beleive me they are looking out for the best of your college experience. Since i've been here i have had a couple of run arounds, with paperwork and stuff, but i've learned that if you do exactly what is said, and do it on time than it's not really a problem. I've volunteered at just about every FAMU event possible. I was on the Homecomming committee for two years in a row and that was an experience that you can never forget...I am also part of PAAC which is a volunteer organization on campus..im also very active in my student government, and elections is another memory like no other..i guess i can say i've had some good experiences..don't get me wrong they're some bad ones like the cafe'(on-campus cafeteria) which took sometime getting use too, and the fact that it rains a hella lot in Tally. As far as living(and i know people going to laugh at me on this one) i've lived on campus all three years and that's been quite interesting cause i network and interact with my school alot...but hey if you got anymore questions i'll be willing to answer them
Im originally from New Orleans, but lived every where in florida right now my folks stay in Fort Walton Beach, which is this hick town...but yeah as far as the on-campus food goes "the Cafe" which is the main on-capus dinning facility is pretty much where most on-campus students eat at the food is i guess you can say alright, but it could be better. Thats not the only on-campus eating place on famu's campus though..we have a pizza hut...a kfc....this place called the RAttler's nest which cooks soul food, and fried chicken and stuff it's pretty good..there's also talks right now for a chik-fi-la and a taco bell to be on campus..we also about to have this new beagal sub shop open up in fall of 2008 so there are other places to eat at on campus
oh thats good cuz i lovvveee food. But yea i've dealt alot with evil adminiatrators and ppl losing my stuff im used to that kind of disfunction. but like my boyfriend his mom has alot of respect for this school and wants us to really go there. and i trust her judgement on the school. But its mostly my fellow peers who got mad stuff to say and its like well whats the truth is famu really the place to be or just a black parents favortie
okay let me say this alot of people buy into what they think they know because of bad press, but as far as the academic side of famu is phenominal
i mean
when you got a business school in the top ten
a architect school in the top 25
a pharmacy school that is the best in the country
an education school that produces the most black teachers, and the most male black teachers in the state of florida
a top notch nursing school
one of the only hbcu's with a journalism school that won the most heirst awards this year, and a school news paper that's just won 11 out of 21 publishing awards
people are going to hate on us trust me
