Hey everyone!I'm India. I'm a Junior in high school. I'm a very, very preppy girl & ppl may find it ironic that I want to attend an HBCU. lol. But, I'm a very cool girl who is easy to get along with. I'm smart, but yet a slacker at the same time. & I'm VERY ambitious. I know what I generally want & I'm out here hustling to get it. I am almost done with my Pharmacy Technician course. It's three credits towards graduation. & It's also a dual enrollment program meaning that I receive college credits. I have taken my State Pharmacy Technician exam & I am now a licensed Pharmacist Technician in the state of Virginia. I am in many, many clubs this year including Key Club, Photography Club, SCA Vice President of Activities, History Club, Uzuri, SODA Club, & Who's Who Amongst American High School Students. My year to date GPA is 3.0. But, unfortunatly, I have a cumulative GPA of 2.4& I've taken the SAT only once & have a score of 920 for the math & english section. I plan to take a SAT Workshop course & retake my SAT.I want to become a BISON!!Howard is THE school for me. It's the only HBCU that I am considering. I want to apply Early Action this fall for the acceptance in '09. So, that is ony 6 months away. It'll be here before I know it. Do you think that I will be admitted? Btw, I want to major in nursing.
Awww. Dont think that!
Whatever's meant to me is meant to be. So if its meant to be for you to be a Bison, simply put, you will be. Plus, I dont think you have anything to worry about!
Hi India,
Since you are a JR., you still have time to increase your GPA. I would encourage you to take the ACT and SAT. Also, I recommend attending a summer program at Howard. This will provide an opportunity to show that you are serious about your education. In addition, it will provide an opportunity to display your work ethic. Based upon Howard’s website, they have a summer program geared toward HS students that are interested in Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Check out the link below for details! Good luck future Bison Summer Enrichment Program and Recruitment
APPLICATION DEADLINE April 18, 2008
Whats up MissIndia!
The future Bison and others have been very welcoming and have given you great advice, however, I need to be candid for a second...
...First, lets not even talk about admission to Howard until you raise that 2.4 GPA. And not just a little bit...but a whole helluva lot. There is more to college than just being accepted; you are also going to need to PAY for it. School is expensive and scholarships are not too easy to get for those with low GPA's. I have been there, done that and I speak from experience!
Secondly, you are in too many activities! Cut down on your extra curriculars so you can focus on raising your tests scores and grade point average. You might even want to consider retaking some courses in summer school to help you get that extra boost in the fall.
And if I were you, I would apply regular action and use your first semester senior year to ensure your grades and scores are where you want them to be before applying.
Good Luck!
