I KNOW THIS TOPIC IS GOING TO CAUSE A BIG REACTION BUT I DONT CARE.....I WAS READING SOME OF THE OTHER TOPICS AND SUCH, LISTENING TO EVERYONE. I READ THE POST BY THAT GUY KAPPANUP AND HOW EVERYONE JUMPED ON HIM.....
I PERSONALLY DONT UNDERSTAND WHATS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT BEING GREEK....I KNOW AT HOWARD BEING GREEK IS SLOWLY NOT ABOUT ISH....MATTER FACT NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE I KNOW AND I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE WANT TO BE ASSOCIATED BECAUSE GREEKS ARE LOOKED AT AS LAME... I MEAN MAYBE SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME LIGHT ON THIS I AM JUST WANTING TO KNOW WHAT THE FASCINATION IS ABOUT....I MEAN WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT TO JOIN AN ORGANIZATION THAT BEATS THEM AND TREATS THEM LIKE ISH BEFORE THEY GET IN AND THEN WHEN THEY GET IN THEY ARE FAKE.....LIKE THIS ONE DUDE WHO PLEDGED QUE AT OUR SCHOOL COULDNT STAND LIKE 6 QUES THAT WERE ON THE LINE BEFORE AND HE STILL PLEDGED...NOW THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BROS BUT YOU CANT TRUST EM AS FAR AS YOU CAN THROW EM. ALSO THE WHOLE GREEK THING IS KINDA WHITE-WASH IF YOU ASK ME.....BLACK PEOPLE ARE BEATING EACH OTHER AND EVERYTHING ELSE TO WEAR SOME WHITE MANS LETTERS ON THEY CHEST....I JUST DONT GET IT.....PAY ME 1000 DOLLARS AND I'LL BEAT YOU TOO AND I'LL GET YOU SOME LETTERS THAT GLOW IN THE DARK.... :lol: .....I MEAN PEOPLE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME BECAUSE YALL LOOK LIKE FOOLS TO ME AND ALOT OF OTHER PEEPS.....SQUEALING LIKE PIGS, BARKING, RUNNING AROUND LIKE MONKEYS, AND EVERY OTHER ANIMAL IN THE BOOK.....MY GRANDMOTHER IS AN AKA AND SHE SOUNDS SO FOOLISH WHEN SHE TALKS ABOUT HER PLEDGING DAYS ( JUST MORE BLACKS TRYING TO FIT IN)....I READ THE HISTORY ON THESE FRATS AND SORORITIES AND IT SEEMS LIKE THEY WERE STARTED BECAUSE THEY COULDNT BE IN THE WHITE FOLKS STUFF SO THEY MADE THEY OWN AND SEGREGATED THEY OWN PEOPLE ( THATS ISHED UP)
Youre trying to get a good understanding of why we decided to join a greek organization but yet you give us reasons for why we didnt join???

I'm going to have to disagree with you I see what you mean about some of your statements. Now I can’t speak for other BGLO's but with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity incorporated, it is indeed about brotherhood. I have nothing but love for my bruhs, and especially for my line brothers. They know that I am willing and have gone out of my way, as long as it does not go against the morals that I personally believe in, to help them when they need me, no questions asked. I love my line brothers and I make sure that I tell them that every time I see them. I would trust my line brothers with things that I would never tell my friends or my parents. YES IT"S THAT DEEP. And that is something that I couldn’t really find being a former member of Habitat for Humanity & Jr. Civitans back in the day.
Now if you want to know why I joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, I'll let you know. I've wanted to be a sigma since HS. I knew sigmas back in the day and these people were bright young men that gave a dayum about what was going on in their own community. They were not afraid to put in work and be apart of something that was uplifting the community instead of bringing it down. Fast forward a few years to college, I see that the sigmas were actually focused on doing good things, not only on the yard but also in the community. They were not about throwing party after party, sure they had fun and all but they got things done. I myself aspire to be a great man in the future and what better way to achieve that goal that to be surrounded with other great men who are about the same.

Is this fact or hearsay/opinion? Despite whether its fact or opinion being in the employment industry I've seen the networking aspect for my own eyes but thats not what its all about (a bonus yes). I've been to a retreat for young men held by my Boss who is a Kappa. His father-in-law is a Que. There is nothing like seeing an old school give a seminar on MANHOOD to a group of young teenagers who absorb everything like sponges.

I'll flat out say that you haven't done enough research. If you have then you only absorbed the negative stuff. This isn't for everybody. But as long as their is positive work being done why hate (its soooo much more than that I don't fee like explaining). Most of the times it pointless explaining things to folk who seemingly have their mind made up. My question to you bears no malice behind it... Were you really seeking understanding? You definitley are coming across like somebody who has already made up their mind so right now I feel like i'm typing to a brick wall. Let me know if I'm wrong because if I am i wouldn't mind explaining more indepth through a private message because I once used to be on the same plain of thought that you were until somethings personally were revealed to me.

I would just like to drop a little bit of knowlage about the whole fact that there are no black greeks. The greek alphalbet is in actuality taken from the African Coptic alphabet it was used as a secret language of the Egyptian Priest of the Mystery System

But seriously...what he's saying is true...you would neva understand what it is to be in a greek sorority or fraternity until you have experienced it...we can go back and forth on what we think is right and what we've heard...but until you've had someone that doesn't even know you come to your aid at 2 or 3 in tha morning or they take out their time to show you around when you're in a new town because you're soror or frat...you could neva really understand how deep tha bond is...
OK, I'm still new over here, been reading, but haven't really posted.

But in my humble opinion, you can't expect people to come at you with actual answers when you come out accusing us of basically being pointless. You said something about African Symbols. Until you join an organization, you won't know why they chose the letters they chose. I think it would be wise for you to not pre-judge them though.
Every REAL organization has a purpose. Whether or not the chapter at your school serves the purpose is another subject in itself. But unless you know what the organization's purpose is... you can't judge them.
From the outside looking in, you never really see how it is. You see bits and pieces, but I know that in my organization we work our behinds off. Also it's a family, we are sisters and brothers in a bond working towards a common goal. We don't always get along, we don't always agree, we didn't join necessarily to make new friends. But you also have to remember, when you step to one of us incorrectly, you will be treated with the same respect.
No matter how much we fight, we will ALWAYS be there for each other in our times of need.
I joined my organization because I believed in what it stood for, the relationships and other perks are simply bonuses. Everyone joins for different reasons.
To end my post, you can't really speak on what you don't know. Try talking to some of the greeks on your campus and getting to know them and see what they are all about before you judge based on what other people tell you. Besides, one day you might want to be Greek, and you wouldn't want people bad mouthing you or the organization you are a part of either.
