wow that was alot to read...lol no it wasn't well i could relate to most of the things you said except in my family all my cousins rely on me they think i'm the chosen child so all the pressure was/is on me to succeed in highschool and in college so stressful sometimes....for instance in my family this year i had a bad year because my mom lost her job and everything in life was crappy...and my family found out that my gpa had dropped from a 3.4 to a 3.1......and they said some of the most insulting things...which really and i mean really upset me...because the 2 cousins below me have gpa's that are barely 1.0s.....but anyways Your not always going to like who you are related to (which is another reason i want to go out of state for college) but they are your family whether or not they like you or if you don't like them...in my opinion just do you...stay true to yourself even though it may seem like its 1 against 20 or how many people are in your family...im the "odd ball" of my family...but just stay strong plus when you become rich...they will come around..then you can kick them to the curb....just kiddin

Well that might be kind of hard. Do you think I'd need a co-signer if I kept the rent paid 3 months ahead of time because wouldn't the issue be that I don't have enough credit yet?

yeah thats true but it depends on the landlord you have to ask around

I can afford that. I have a pretty nice savings. Like I said earlier I've always saved half my checks. I know they will want first and last in advance. So if I give them first, last, + 3 more months wouldn't that kind of override not having someone to co-sign with me?

You can get an apartment at 18. As long as you have a steady work history, they will probably approve you. If you don’t have a long history, you have to prove that you can pay your rent. Therefore, they will ask for an offer letter or 2 paycheck stubs. Essentially, they will use the offer letter and paycheck stubs to determine, if you can afford the apartment.

In my personal opinion, I don’t think you need a co-signer. As long as you don’t have bad credit, you can get an apartment without a co-signer.

Hi Orca51, Don’t let anyone take your joy. Keep your head up. Once you are 18, you are legally an adult. Therefore, you can get an apartment and decide where you would like to attend college. However, I would definitely respect my parents and family. Just be respectful and strategic, when you make your decision about moving out and/or where to attend college. It’s not what you do, but how you do it. Since life is about memories, I would stay for my senior year and graduate with my friends. If I were you, I would keep working hard academically and striving for excellence.Since you are about to leave for college soon, I would not move out unless I was in physical danger. Financially, I don’t think it’s a good idea to sign a lease and spend unnecessary money. If possible, save that money and use if for Spelman, Howard, or Hampton. During college, save as much money as possible and don’t get into any unnecessary debt. No matter what, try to keep good credit. This will be necessary to get a car, house, and/or business loan. After you graduate from college, you can decide where to live, work, etc. Just remember to stay true to yourself. Best wishes with your future endeavors.
