So You Want To Join A Frat..huh?? Posted on 06-15-2004

For people that were like me, the people that did not have a clue what a Fraternity was truly about and how they could join one..he's some inside info...I hope you all find it usefull You can’t spell “Brothers” without at the same time spelling “others” Fraternities and certain civic groups have always provided a special place for men who want and need to enjoy “guy things.” These types of groups also help bolster your network of professional friends, from those on college campuses to corporate boardrooms, and often offers support not found in traditional places. Fraternities, (atleast African-American ones) provide a close-knit sense of bonding like no other found in human existence. There are often times that “brothers” in fraternities can share ideas, thoughts, and feelings with fellow “frats” that they cannot share with their family members. Also brothers in a fraternity(from the Divine 9) and other fraternal organizations will always be there to help you. However, there are some limits. A quick joke: “If your brother has a CAR, you have a CAR; If your brother has a DOLLAR, you have a DOLLAR; If you brother has a chick..Well..” Overall, most African-American member-based groups not only offer the personal, lifelong, lasting friendships that provide a pillar of assistance to individuals of “like minds”, they also provide a service to those around them and those in need. See, it’s just like playing a game of basketball, getting together for a spades tournament once a month, participating in fellowship with others in church, being active in a fraternal order or civic group can offer a man a sense of belonging to a community. So, Check ALL OF THEM out…. How To Get In  Talk with a buddy or relative who is already involved in a fraternal order or civic group. Have him introduce you to some of the members to get their perspectives on the group. Review the tenets of different groups to see if they fit YOUR interests, philosophies, and ideas. Be ACTIVE with organizations that do important work in your community, even if you are not a member or don’t wish to become one… Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. 1906 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. 1911 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. 1911 Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. 1914 Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. 1963 Remember, there isn't a such thing as the BEST Frat..Find one that works for YOU!!!!!

^^^Sororities like many other organizations (church groups, youth groups, NAACP, community orgs, etc.) are great ways to do community service at larger levels. Your question on who does a lot of activities in the community is kind of broad. Which community are you referring to (the Black community, a religious community, or your local community)? There are many sororities out there that do a great deal of community service. You just have to see which one is right for you, because these organizations are more than just community service orgs (it's a sisterhood 8) ). You should try searching the net to find out about the basics on the different organizations out there. If you're looking for Black organizations try portals such as: www.blackrefer.com , www.straightblack.com , www.everythingblack.com , etc. Then, try looking around your campus or your community to see which ones are visibly active. Good luck!

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice on that page that they forget Martin Luther King under 'Who are some of the more well-known fraternity and sorority members?'
