light skin vs. dark skin Posted on 12-31-2008
i*heart*pie

i just recently watched (like ten minutes ago) the Tyra Show's April 24th episode (Do Light Skin Black People Have A Better Advantage) with my Asian sisterfriend who was nothing short of shocked to find this kind of discrimination within the African-American community. She thought it was stupid tho' because she felt that Black people had enough goin' on in America without having to fight themselves as well. Smart girl. I think I asked this before, but I got a serious case of I-forget-itis, so **** me. Do you think lightskinneded folk in the African-American community get better treatment than darkskinneded folk?

Actually, I don't think that's it. My family is half-Afro-Caribbean and half-Asian (South and otherwise) and we are not all light-skinned. Fact is, one's phenotype is really the luck of the draw. There are only ten or so genes that determine your outlook, so even with light-skinned parents one can be a dark-skinned child.

******************************************************* Actually -- the post did NOT say or imply in any way that a person HAD TO HAVE a light-skin complexion IN ORDER TO BE of a Mixed-Race ancestral lineage What the post noted was that -- those people who do have a light-skin complexion are quite clearly of a visibly Mixed-Race ancestral lineage! *********************ORIGINAL POST************************ It is often a surprise for people to learn that, in reality, there is actually No Such Thing As a "Light Skinned Black" person. The term "Light Skinned Black" is really nothing more than a racist oxymoron that was created by White Supremacists in an effort to forcibly deny those Mixed-Race individuals, who are of a Multi-Generational Multiracially-Mixed (MGM-Mixed) Lineage, the right to fully embrace and to also received public support in choosing to acknowledge the truth regarding their full ancestral heritage. The people who have been slapped with the false label and oxymoronic misnomer of "Light Skinned Black" person are simply Mixed-Race individuals -- whose family have been continually Mixed-Race throughout their multiple generations.
