I am so against white people using the N word simply because I felt like they were callin me that all through 6th grade when I was in an almost totally white class in a mixed school...( almost even in all races) I especially hated it when we read "To **** a Mockingbird" in class...so all you heard was white folks saying "Niggra this..Nigra that".. I almost had to hit somebody in that class. so Heyal naw they cant say it... I barely like black folks sayin it.

Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in the south, but it is kinda "hard" to really get offended when a white boy says "****" to me or around me when I know he isn't saying it in a derogatory way. This is how I see it...for somebody like me, when I heard the word "****" 98% of the time it was from black people who were just sayin it as many of us do, meaning no harm. Therefore, when I hear the word, it doesn't send any trigger any emotional feelings as it does to adults who were used to hearing the word only when they were being insulted and put down. That is why I can see why adults hate the word, and when they hear it, they get mad that blacks still use it. But for somebody like me, to get mad because I heard a white boy say "whas up my ****" would be absurd because I know he doesn't mean it in a bad way, and because it is stupid to say "we can use it because we're black but you can't because you're white." Regardless of whatever the popular belief is, that statement is as contradictory as it gets. When a white person says it meaning insult, then I will take offense, but if a white or asian or mexican uses it, I will look at them a bit strange but I really can't be offended as most blacks seem to act. I know most won't agree with that, but also, look at it this way...how much black do you have to have in you to be able to say the word, if it really is a thing that ONLY we can say? What if somebody is 50% black? What about 25%? Do they have to have a certain percentage? When you break it down to that level, then it really gets complicated and shows the ignorance of the statement.

^^^there is no know need to break it down like that. Think about it, who would say ," I can say ni99er because my grandfather or great grandfather is black" ? And if someone did they are simply just trying to hard.

Believe it though, these type of arguements happen a lot. My school had some mixed kids who were 50% black and they were seen as being black. However, it was one dude that was a quarter black, and the rest was italian and somethin else, and you could see a liittle black in him but not much. But he almost got beat up for sayin "****" even though he was rappin somethin from a song to somebody. His main arguement was "how is it ok for some people to say it but some can't just because they have one more black relative than I do? I grew up in Inglewood around black people and even though I'm only a quarter black, I still identify with black people as well as italians" and at first I was one of the blacks who was against what he did but after hearin that, then talkin to my dad about it, it's really hard to say who's right or wrong in these type of situations. Basically, after a few situations like this, and just from hearin different people talk, I think that many of us my age have a conflict of interests in this discussion. If you are against the word, be against it no matter the context or who's mouth it comes from. If you are against the word bein used in a derogatory manner, then be against it when it is used as an insult to you. I am not saying you should agree with when white people or others say it, but I just think that it's kinda backwards for you to use it and accept it when it comes from blacks and half blacks, but then get mad when it's used by somebody else. That's jus my opinion.

^ very tru.....I guess when it all boils down to it it's black/white.....sometimes ppl don't see beyond that border. Latino's are more accepted among the black community so, yeah, when they say it, it's not too bad. But for some reason there was a bigger controversy over J-Lo saying it in "I'm Real". Its all in the eye of the beholder really.....but where i live, if a white person says that PERIOD, the viability of their race is threatened because they are being chased with baseball bats up the block by the black people

That was debated a whole lot when J. Lo said "****" on a song a few years ago. Everybody was mad at it and sayin it was racist, even though a black person wrote the lyrics, and even tho Big Pun and Fat Joe always use the word and they are puerto rican as well. LOL, the response to that from most people was either "Fat Joe ain't black? I thought he was black and puerto rican" or either "cubans and puerto ricans can say it, they are coo with us" So that's part of the debate that is dumb to me, basically how some can say it and some can't. Even though Fat Joe would sound a lot better sayin "****" than Eminem would.
