AfroPoeticSista

i had read somewhere that band members who do not pledge into the music fraternity/sorority groups get little to no respect. have you seen the same thing happen at your school?

Welp, I don't judge on folk who can't/won't do the frat and the sorors. They get respect in the band if they can play. We know how to separate one from another.

what music fraternity/sorority groups are you talking about? the only music fraternity/sorority groups I know of are KKPsi, TBS, SAI, and PMASinfonia. If you are talking about sections, remember they are NOT substitutes from frats and sorors. I don't know about anybody else, but bandmembers dont "cross". Thats crabbing. Crabbing is hazing and nobody does that. Collegiate bands are non-hazing organizations.
That's not true  No offense to any Morehouse Band kats on here  but I've seen hazing to band members at Football games... especially the drum section

The band is one of the closest family's on campus...but they are also known for some other extra-curricular after practice activities.
We are fortunate to have a close nit family in the band.... HOWEVER the rumor that we indulge in "extra-curricular after practice activities" is FALSE..... The only activities that we have are to promote unity in our band....hazing is not in out curricular activities. Who ever told you that prolly didnt "cross" their sections, and probably doesnt know what they are talking about. The FORCE does not haze............. BTW Shout outs to SAX-O-MATIC and my MARCHING PIRATES.!!!! And to answer the question if we dislike people who dont cross their sections.... the answer is YES!!!! Simply because they show that they do not want to get to know their fellow bandmates and that they have no intentions in being in out family!!! HOWEVER... we still treat them as if they are one of our own....kinda like that cousin that disdowned their family...we still got love for them.

Do we haze, NO! Are people who don't cross their section somewhat frowned upon, most of the time yes. No saying that they aren't liked as a person but they just aren't a part of the "inner" family. I think that everyone should cross their section because of the unity that it brings to the section. I did and I love Brass Monkeys, Inc. just as much as I love Kappa Kappa Psi. This year, my section was the only section in the band to have every person in the section a "member" of the section. That somewhat helped us earn the title of Best Section. As far as the Fab 4, all four are non-hazing organizatons. Nuff said. To all the members of PMA and SAI, hello To my Sorors of Tau Beta Sigma, MLITB  To my BRUHS, you know the deal. AEA because KKPsi!

 So youre not hazed when you cross a section?!?!? What band are you in? I was asked a guy why he had been in the band for three years and never crossed his section..He simply said that he refuse to let someone beat his behind and they cant even play their own instrument.

But you gotta think about it like this.... How the hell did he know he was going to be hit??? He really doesnt know....it also really depends on which band you are in. And crossing your section really has nothing to do with playing your instrument.... its a lot deeper than that. Not everyone is a great musician...doesnt mean they arent a good asset to the band!!!
