No HBCU for Me:Sad Story Posted on 06-25-2004

Hey yall! I dont post that often so yall are probably not real familiar with me. But any ways my sad story. I was supposed to be going to Hampton University this fall. I had paid my deposit ($600.00) and was about to schedule my classes. At the last minute I realize that my parents cant do a Plus loan for me, because it's too risky. Their house would be on the line! I understand they're reasoning for not doing it. But ever since middle school I have wanted to go to an HBCU. But fortunately for me my older sister had connections at Bowling Green State University. (Mostly white folks) so I am going somewhere. But on top of not going to Hampton, my boyfriend just recently broke up with me, and my best friend and I aren't cool any more. All of this happened back to back. I'm happy about being able to go to Bowling Green. One good thing is next year I'll be able to transfer to Hampton! i can't wait! I think I just needed to vent. Whew...

COSIGNS all around.. NeoSoulBrotha... thank you for being my conscience.. hmm.. you took the words right outta my mouth... Schoolgal, Don't worry Ma.. all good things come in God's time.. Think of it this way.. Hampton ain't ready for you yet.. God is just preparing the area for what you have to offer it. Continue to be steadfast in your beliefs and all will be well... If it makes you feel any better, my friend just crossed Sigma @ BGSU, and he is FINE... you might as well have something nice to look at until you go to Hampton... ANd another thing.. hopefully I'll see you in 2 years at the HU vs. HIU game... holla

All I will say is that the Lord works in mysterious ways. When it comes to your boyfriend and best friend, God made be ridding you of certain people in your life ( them ) that may be holding you back from great things that may come soon in your immediate future. As far as not being able to attend HU this fall, it is unfortunate, but there is a reason why you will be at Bowling Green this year...And take advantage of the fact that you will still have a college experience somewhere regardless of where it is. You may like it so much that you decide not to transfer to Hampton. But I really do believe there are some good reasons why all this has happened to you. So keep God first and good luck.

Thanks for you all's advice comments and concern! My family comes from a pretty strong christian background. I do understand that the plans that we have for ourselves aren't always God's plan. And we in turn have to move SELF out of the way. I guess I just needed to vent! Caugurl06 so are you going to Clark in the fall? Thanks again yall, it was just a tough pill to swallow. As far as my ex and best friend. I could tell that my friendship had already fallen apart, and we were just claiming each other as best friends. My relationship ended out of the blue. We tried being friends, but that was hard for both b/c we still had feelings for each other, but we both knew it was over. Has anyone else felt like that with a relationship? You just cant be friends... Well any way Thanks again!

It will be iight. I was in the same situation. I got accepted to Spelman and I had big plans, but I didn't get enough money to be able to attend and my mom cant take out loans. So now I am going to University of Maryland College Park, which is right around the corner from me and gave me enough scholarship money to cover tuition. Things will get better...has to.
