Now you know this topic is gonna set off some stuff... For those of you who didn't follow the story, Larry Bird (of Boston Celtics fame) was recently interviewed on TV, where he expressed a desire to see more White players in the NBA. He was immediately criticized by people who said his comments were racist and demanded an apology. What are your thoughts on this? I will return with my opinion once some discussion takes place. Holla!

I dont think that Larry Bird was being racist, he was just making a point. He never said that Black people shouldnt be playin basketball, or that Black people are bad for the game (hell he played with robert parrish). He just said that it would be nice if there were a few more white stars. OH... and Rod... Im lovin the Avatar... gotta love them applebottoms (plumbottoms is cool too... )

In actuallity if you heard what he said he wasnt being racist at all. he was only saying that if there were more white stars then more white people would connect to the NBA therefore more fans and more money. Its all a business
Exactly. For once, I am actually takin a white person's side when he gets bashed by the media. To those who watched the conversation, he was with Magic Lebron and Carmello. He did not just say "there should be more white people in the NBA" he said that if there were more white superstars in the league, it would probably help the fanbase because most of the fan base and America is white, and they would have somebody to identify with. I can see why some people may see it as being racist but I personally am not offended. It is true. Just like how Tiger Woods brought more blacks to watchin golf, and how Venus and Serena widened the tennis fanbase to blacks. Whites may have invented basketball but it's obvious who's runnin it now. And 1-2 white superstars would generate more income for the NBA, even though I don't really care to see it. Thing is, the NBA always tries to make superstars of the white players, but since Larry, there just hasn't been one that has had superstar quality. They were tryin to make Jason Williams the next Magic, but you see how that turned out.
