its gonna sound really corny, but students from HBCU's are like families for real..like everytime an Alumni comes to my job or whatever, we both get all excited, like we family. HBCU's are obviously more crunk also. To our professors we are more then a face, were a name (well, for me)...hmmm....more later..
im a newbie in this piece but im cosigning like a ****. yall are all on point. i went on the black college tour last june b4 i started my senior year and as soon as u walk on a hbcu campus u automatically feel the love. its unexplainable. its just the feeling that you get, knowing that you are about to walk into the vicinity of thousands of people that will embrace u like family. its amazing. too bad i wont experience that hbcu love til next summer cuz my mom punked out and practically made me stay out here (in Cali) for college. hey she IS the one paying for it. but im outta this piece come next year. HOWARD HERE I COME SUMMER 05!! HOLLA! lol
I agree with what people said about HBCU's being a big **** family and having school pride. As Bree said, the minute u see someone outside of campus that goes to your school, yall are already ready to have a convo, w/o even knowing them. And having pride, I don't have to say much about that, cause we all know how much each one of us on here loves our school, even when we speak of negative things....
It seems like Black students who attend HBCUs leave with a lot of self-confidence compared to those at PWIs... at PWIs, especially the larger ones, the professors don't give African American students much-needed attention, and they are seen as just another number; at HBCUs on the other hand, MOST professors have a genuine concern for their students and really want them to succeed... I also think it is really beneficial for Black students to attend HBCUs because of the family atmosphere and school pride that was mentioned before
Ok....well im the odd ball on here of course, and for me its the other way around. I dont knock HBCU's.....but in my situation....a PWI was the best school for me. I visited ODU, Hampton, VSU,VUU, and VCU.I wanted to go to a HBCU so bad (but not too far away from home), but my mom kinda made my decision for me. VCU is no where near the way yall was describing a PWI....i have great pride in my school, and so do others who go there....and to see a lot of educated black people here (alot more than i expected) makes me feel good about my school. I have that "family" atmosphere at VCU also. Yes there are cliques-but thats basically at every school you go to. the professors (if u talk to them) will want to help you and see you succeed. Your not necessarily a "number".I can't say that HBCU's do or dont do that for you cuz all ive done is been to a class or hung out at the dorms.....and you would have to fully experience a school to know the pro's and cons about it. All in all...VCU is the place for me right now........and I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!
Thank YOU! .. One person in this WHOLE forum who doesnt have an ignorant **** stereotypical comment about PWIs .. Every SINGLE THING yall said yall experienced at ur HBCUs I HAVE TO .. Where do yall get some of this from? Yall sound ignorant as hell and brainwashed with a lot of bullshiit :?
^Thanks...i had to let them know u cant knock a PWI until u tried it. Go to a PWI first and, then get back at me in the differences u see in a HBCU and a PWI. 8)
Everything that I said was based on visiting these schools and from talking to people who go to these schools. I didn't make any assumptions, so I definitely am not giving ignorant stereotypes about any PWIs, I am going off of what I see and off of what I know. Now remember, all PWIs are different, and HBCUs in general are more similar than the PWIs. But there are still many obvious differences. So I don't see how we sound ignorant or brainwashed at all.
