Is It True...........Bennett Too? Posted on 06-29-2004

Bennett College for Women is losing accreditation? It is now one of the seven historically black colleges and universities on probation with the SACS. I blame this problem on the lack of administrative leadership?

You want to be an HBCU student and don't know who Tom Joyner is? He is the voice for historically black colleges and a Tuskegee grad. He's also a member of Omega Psi Phi. He is one of the few blacks in media who use their influence to help HBCU's. BTW, NCCU broke the record for HBCU of the Month fundraising.

lol..I was gonna ask the same thing... But at the same time in regards to AKAs comment about Joyner being the only one to step up and give money to HBCUs in needs, I personally think it is just getting ridiculous. If I were rich, being that I will one day be an HBCU alum, I would definitely help any HBCU in need....but I kinda understand why more people are probally a lil ify about donating, cause its not that these schools are broke...its the irresponsibility of their administration in not doing a good enough job of recording and taking care of the books...and I doubt any celebrity who is gonna give millions of dollars wants to take that same risk with their money.

If they dont help stick it out for us then no one else will...They want us to buy their records and go see the movies and all but some dont even donate one dime.Do they have too??? No , but they shouldnt get mad when we download songs or movies from the net. I mean money is not the only way to give back.Just showing that they care can be enough.

even if i don't become rich after i graduate i plan to give money and support to my alma mater and other hbcu's in need. i think that if it's true that they need to find better financial assistants or whatever. and as far as celebrities i don't think they necessarily need to give money but that is a big help and for them risking they take a risk with every movie or album they could at least put a risk out for a big cause such as our education. and i think they could at least use their celebrity to bring awareness to others like i said before Tom Joyner has helped alot and made it aware to a lot of others.

If they're donating that much money, rest assure that the board if directors of any HBCU will let the person put whomever they want in the president/chancellor position.

I mean if you think about it, Spike Lee touched on this problem more than a decade ago (in School Daze.....). I am sure it wasn't this bad as it was then, but the bottom line is that Black people don't even care about Black colleges. Doesn't that sound kinda funny to you?? Without the support of the "community", I think a majorityof the smaller HBCUs will fold. and I know I am late, but what ever happened with the Morris Brown situation??

Morris Brown is still open but has yet to recieve their accreditation back yet, but I hope they do. As soon as I get a job I'm going to give money to my school but in the mean time while I'm on campus I'm going to use my time to give back to my school. We need to do something to help our schools.
