The Greek Mix? Posted on 07-02-2004
BadBoyGood

I have a question that I would like you to seriously ponder without getting offended or defensive because in all sincerity I want to know your view...While I don't condemn people part of Greek letter organizations, do you feel that Greek life and God mix? As reflected in posts on this particular board, do you feel God condones things such as partying, beating up people for sitting on your bench after being warned, elitism, etc. I'm not asking you to compare this subject with problems in the church...I'm not asking you to compare this with anything else in society...I'm not asking you to use big name figures who are/were Greek to support your position...I'm specifically focusing on Greek Like and it's mix with God in your life, not people like MLK [please don't use greek preachers for support]...this isn't a super religious post but don't get too deep...just wanting your opinion.

One of my linesisters brought this up among us, and it turned into a pretty heated discussion. I personally know that there is no conflict between my sorority and God. If a conflict arises, it is because of the individual and not the organization. It is up to each individual to prioritize his/her life. An organization does not make you. You make the organization. And as fa as my Rituals are concerned, I have found nothing that goes against the teachings of God's Word. I have found that the people who say things like Fraternities/sororities are evil are usually on the outside looking in. And speaking from that vantage point about that which you do not know classifies you as a GDI.

Black Greek Letter Organizations (BGLOs) were founded on Christian principles...so i guess tha answer to your question is YES...GREEK LIFE AND GOD DOES MIX...i know there are a lot of things that greeks supposedly do that aren't labeled as "GODLY" but look at it this way...throwing parties and "beating people up" ...isn't the only things that we do!!!...A lot of ppl. think that greeks are there to "have fun" and/or "act a fool" but there is so much more about BGLOs that you could never know unless you are a member (having a family member that is one doesn't count)!!! Non-greeks only hear tha bad side or tha horror stories associated with greeks...when those bad things only happen on occassion but tha great things are going on all tha time...NEGATIVE GOSSIP TRAVELS FASTER THAN GOOD FACTS!!!! Remember that!!!
Co-Sign Also, when Greek letter orgs were first founded, they were about the tru principles that they were set forth and not partying, beating ppl up, or sitting on a bench. I even heard everyone got along back in the gap too. None of this childish im better than u cuz im in XYZ because everyone was basically struggling to overcome rascism and trying to be successful when at that time, education was hard to get and wasnt really pushed for.
