High School Is A Joke Posted on 11-26-2003

... I just want to say that high school is a joke and i hate :!: it is my fourth year here and for what... oh yeah that lovely diploma that's not really getting any where. I just don't think it's fair to me or any other high school student to get a high school diploma and go to a college and the person next to you got a G.E.D. (Good Enough Diploma). Don't get me wrong... i do plan to graduate from high school... but i'm just saying that it's not fair. but i know that you have to have a certain grade point average to get into those really good schools... but if you're a type that don't want to go to a nice high priced state school or just can't afford it... why should you be next to a student who didn't even work as hard as you did. i think that's insulting anyone intelligence... i don't know if its just me trippin' again... but i just had to say that. :? And another thing... this is how someones life can be planed for a high school drop out... go to school until you can legally drop out... go and apply to get your G.E.D. (they have programs that will pay you for taking it) get your "Good Enough Diploma" Go to a crppy college... Graduate and then get one of those nice jobs that you can sit at a desk all day... then you can live happy... ever... after. the same can happen to someone who works hard in Highschool and goes to a good college... how ironic... don't you think :? :?: i didn't post this so anyone can drop out of high school and get the GED... you really wouldn't want to do that... I don't think anyone here should think that they only qualify for "Good Enough" as young black sistahs and brothahs we should stive for the best... but i just wanted you guys to see what i'm seeing... is anyone else noticing this? :|

i don't think that those who get GED's are any less deserving of going to college than anyone else. there are many reasons that people have for getting their GED that has nothing to do with being lazy and not wanting to work in high school. everyone should have an opportunity to be educated and whether you get a diploma or a GED is not the issue because people still have to WANT that GED meaning that they do want to work for it. on the flip side, i am ready for school to be over so i can be out of my parent's house. other than that, i think i'll miss this easy living.

I can't believe u are really talking down on people with a GED. They are just as qualified as anyone to go to college. Certain situations sometimes force people to drop out of school and get a GED. I can take my dad for example. He got kicked out of high school but he got his GED and graduated from FAMU as an honor student and did better than most of the high school graduates. And he is doing damn well (I ain't going to brag) if I say so myself. SMH

High school was fun the first two years....but by Junior year I couldnt wait to get the hell up outta there....and by senior yeah FORGET IT. I had a serious case of senioritus.....I couldnt wait til June 19, 2003, so I could walk across that stage, get my diploma, and not have to ever think about walking the halls of high school again.
Yes Yes I'd agree. I was in love with HS the first three years ...Senior year.I probably was placed in the top ten who suffered most from Senioritis It was a damn drag!! Overall I managed to still grad in the top 20% of my grad class and I'm happily going to college this fall!!!

Now I can understand what you were saying with the GED thing. I understand if certain circumstances call for a GED but if you lazy **** just decided to lay at home while I worked for 4 years then go to school for 4 months and get a diploma....that makes me mad as... but I digress...high school was not really fun for me, but now that I graduated, I look back and see that so of the skills that I learned and the experiences that I went through were neccessary. So try to enjoy...

I am not understanding the big deal. Who cares what they did. It doesn't matter if they took what u feel was a "shortcut" to get to the same place as u. U going to be upset at a person who went to Tech school for 2 years and is just as qualified if not more qualified than someone who went to a 4 year institution to get their degree? Plus, u are acting like they just sat there and flipped their erasers around when they got their GED. They had to work too although probally not as hard but they still had to work
