Why Greeks hate on other Greeks? Posted on 07-05-2004

I'm non-greek so i really dont check this forum out that often. However while at my job, something happen that made me bring up a question that I always wanted to ask... Why do Greeks (not all..dont get me wrong) hate on other Greeks? I was sitting at my job and this one Sigma I work with was doggin out this other kat who was a Kappa...For one the Sigmas words went in one ear and came out the other...There was no need for him to hate on the Kappa kat (whos mad kewl) just becaues of his org. I have also seen Greeks hate on other Greeks on my campus a few times. Also I had a run in with a Delta who seem kewl at first, but when I told her I had mad respect for the AKA's becaues they gave me one of my scholarships, she about took my head off. I mean you all are apart of the Divine Nine (well some of you.. ) and you all are a unique and vital part of 20th century African American history; shouldn't you all work with eachother to make eachother look good to the public and for yourselfs? I know eachone holds something different, thats why you choose that org, but yo why hate on eachother?

I dont quite understand what all the hating is about.I mean we are criticized and stereotyped by outsiders and then have hear the same crap from other Greeks.I'm so tired of people(even Greeks) asking me why AKA's always walk with their noses in the air...Why??? Maybe because your face is too far up my **** .Okay, I digress.
Wow...its ok.... u seem to have had a run in with an **** or two in ur day. A lot of the mess does get started by non-greeks and for some reason SOME greeks will fuel it. Its not that serious. And like *Chokli* said... its about the service first and foremost.

I know what you mean, but when I do it, it's more for fun. Like when I see my boy at work , (& he's a sigma Sigma: "Whaddup 'Mar, I see you liking that blue shirt u got on there." Me: "Man, it was laundry day, and luckily this was all I could find" OR Me: "My money was low, and all I could afford was something from goodwill ya know. "

At FAMU, I definitely see some Greek rivalries. In general, many individuals may get along with other greeks, but many of them are so strung on politics and all else that it gets messy. The Kappas and Alphas were about to fight hard at this one party this summer, and in Long Beach CA, the Omegas and Sigmas were fightin. It probably differs from school to school, but I know that some of the greeks here just don't get along too good. Especially when it comes to SGA politics.

As an undergrad we had unity on our campus for the most part. There were individuals who may have not gotten along prior to joining their organizations, so of course that dislike continued afterwards. I had a great time in undergrad with Sigma as well as all the NPHC brothers and sisters made it very special for me. When I crossed in 93, one of my best friends, who is a AKA, came from her campus with this HUGE Pink and Green Bag. It was FILLED with Sigma Gamma Rho gifts for me (a tear dropping). That was soooo special to me and all of her chapter sorors always showed me much love. My sands and sorors are the same with her and my other girls (sorority or not). I have been blessed to have friends that are able to see that we all have a common goal, but choice various methods of obtaining them. It's just like when you select the college you want to attend. Even though your best friends may attend FAMU, Howard, etc. you respect that, but may choose to attend A&T. It's all love there. If it wasn't our organizations wouldn't have come together in NPHC. Just my 22 cents. Peace and Blessings
