D@mn....thats raw. We all pretty much know how I feel about this situation. Yeah I could have followed a legacy, but it wasn't me to do so. (CLEARLY why my LB calls me "Blu Ivy" now...) But that's a shame. I hope ya friend comes out on top of this one. His dad really needs to take a look at himself and what he's done. Thats not even about organizations... thats just wrong. U raise ur children to think for themselves, then punish them when they do?....
He should just be happy the boys in college

WOW. That sounds like what my cousin is going through now. Her mom (my aunt) has been DST for over 35 years but she (my cousin) just crossed AKA at Clemson. Her mom found out and threatened to cut off all her funding for college; she gets no financial aid because my aunt is a lawyer and makes too much $. She had to go stay with my other aunt for the summer because her mom is still **** and won't let her come home. I was the first AKA lady in my fam so my aunt blames me for her chosing AKA over DST. I don't look at it that way. I say my cousin followed her heart. I would be heart-broken if my daughter ((should I ever have one)) pledged anything other than AKA or Zeta<---only cause my mom is one  but I definitely would NOT cut her off because she is still my child. That should come before ANYTHING. *smh*
How did Mom dukes feel about your choice?

That is truly f'ed up. If I ever have a daughter and she wants to pledge something besides Delta, that's her choice. Granted, I won't pay her fees or even help her pay for it. But I wouldn't treat her like crap. She'd have a godmother who's a Zeta, some cousins and play aunts who are AKAs, and a play aunt that is S G Rho, so one of them can pay for it. lol. I'm only paying for DST.

By the time she tried to influence me to go Zeta I had already had my mind made up. She wasn't upset or anything, we joke a lot. My mom and I were never close (my dad raised me) so that factors in to the lack of influence as well.

It makes no sense at all... as far as i'm concerned bloodlines in my family run thicker than any fraternity out there so of course family comes first especially my own seed. As for me I didn't have a father or any male greeks (my moms DST)in my family but it just so happened that all my mentors/father figures were XYZ and so they encouraged (<-- understatement) to go for XYZ and I know they would be extremely dissappointed if I went otherwise but in the end as long as I was about my business there would be no hard feelings (they supported me while I was on line for PMA (which shocked the hell out of them)).

I don't understand how a parent could cut their children off like that. All I can say is it's not that serious. that's your child and will be so until you die and they die.

Looking at this....is this not a milder form of the same thing. Ur saying out right... if my child goes anything other than DST i'm not paying for it. I could understand uf u said "if she wants it...WHATEVER it is... she has to pay for it. But u said anything BUT DST. Thats the same thing as dude's dad is doing to him in my eyes.

thats the dumbest Sh*t ive ever herd...In no way shape or form would I force Alpha down my sons throat...cause that is not gonna make him a good member of my org....now i hope that he would make the right decision, and choose the Oldest and Coldest, but if he didnt i would not disown him or beat his ****...As a Father u are suppose to support your child in all endeavors....and just like i tell these Prospective interest, ill tell my son ALPHA IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
Exactly, if its not in your heart, dont do it b/c u wont make it, at least for Zeta. Im gonna be happy just as long as they are in school and doing well
