Hey I can relate to you some....campus life does get a little better during the fall because they tend to have more parties. But a lot of times you have to create your own fun. Of course coming from up North or from a big city it's going to be boring. I don't know from personal expericence but because my best friend happened to be from New York. I know it **** that you can't have a car your freshmen or sophmore year, but u can always work around that one. Try to befriend upper classmen so that you can get a ride to Norfolk, because the mall downtown is nice....there is three levels. Plus there is Va beach, Bush Garden's, and Kings Dominion which isn't too far....it's all about connections and finding means of transportation. During the regular school year especially in the fall there are football games and stuff. For some people after a while it kind of grows on you and then for some other people it just isn't for them.
The cafe food...*laughs* There isn't anything positive I can say about that..I know I avoided the cafe a many of days...
Hopefully hampton will get better for u... my sister is a senior there and she said pre-college is just wack and that it gets better when school starts. I was down at hampton a few weeks ago to check out sum peeps i knew @ pre-college... and that joint was sad. It looked like everyone was bored. I saw madd peeps that looked like they was 14. and the security guards was on my case err time i turned around. LoL and u aint lying bout wal-mart being the jumpoff. peeps go up there just to floss  But i aint haitin on hampton.. ive been there alot and usually i have a good time... but my encounter with pre-college was wack. Stick wit it homie
First let me say that pre-college it exactly what it is suppose to be...I came to pre-college to take some credits to get ahead....and get a sample of what college life is going to be like.....I think so far that has happened....are there parties all the time ...no...but the intent of pre-college is not to party and have a great time 24/7 but to help you adjust to the new found freedom that you will have in college....as others have said things will change when everyone gets here.....the biggest advantage I have found for pre-college are the people....I have met some great people in the 08 class and have found some upperclassmen who have been very helpful.....I am truely excited about the Fall semester because I know as a person and student I will be better prepared for college life...just my thoughts.....if Hampton isn't for you.....sorry...
Yeah I heard it was a little on the boring side at Pre-C this year. Last year, we had a blast. It's what you make it though. New Yorkers got so much heat on them now because some of your counterparts were involved in so much drama last year.
HU ain't for everybody.
I'm at PC right now and honestly I am content with it. I came here to get six credits out the way and I am doing that. In the process, I wanted to meet people. As far as that is concerned, I have done that and more. The people here are real kool and easy to talk to. The guys here in Wilder Hall are some of the koolest dudes I have met in my life and I am glad I came here. We all gon be boys during the school year. As far as the females are concerned, they are straight too. I mean you have the occasional rude female, but that is everywhere. Most females here are like the dudes, just trying to meet people. All the ones I have met are real kool.
The cafeteria food aint as bad as it was hyped up to be. I mean it aint no gourmet meal but it gets the job done. I mean push come to shove, call Papa Johns and they will deliver it. I personally like 4th Quarter's subs.
But all in all, I think I have accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish during this five week period. I know during the regular school year, its gon be better because there will be more people and once class gets started, everything will feel normal.
HU aint for everyone, hell who knows, it might not even be for me. You just gotta see what the future holds.
And like homeboy said, you're they're for an education. You also have to remember that there are students there that are trying to earn their acceptance meaning they're not getting into Hampton unless they take those classes and pass. Like I had to do. So it's not going to be a whole lot of partying all the time during PC. I went up their with the wrong mindset and almost forgot that I was in PC to earn my accpetance and not to party. So just try remember what college is for.
bIts wild....everytime there's a thread about Hampton...you have the Hampton Haters (aka Howard Students and wannabes) in full affect. We must be doing something right.
But back to the topic at hand. It always seems like New Yorkers are the ones that have the hardest time adjusting. No one hates on New York....well I don't see reason to hate on somebody because of their state. Some of my closest friends are New Yorkers. Some of yall have problems adjusting to the "No Hats Policy" so of course you're gonna get hounded. Yes you're gonna get hounded to get in the gate. What's the point of having a gate if they are gonna let any and everyone just drive around. I never went to Pre-College but the consensus is that for the last two years it has sucked social wise. My freshman year I heard nothing but good things about PC...HONESTLY. They had activities planned for them every night. Some lil party every weekend. Work on the street is that Mr. Mangana our Student Activities Director has resigned for a higher paying job. So yall are probably stuck in the middle of a transition. Hampton isn't a party school...but trust things will be jumping when school starts on the weekends. Don't expect too much during the weekdays M-Thurs unless you are an Upper Classmen with a car. Flossin to go to Walmart  FOR WHAT? that's an exaggeration. That must have meant you went to Walmart to hang out  When we say Walmart is the spot we mean that whatever time of night/day you'll find a Hampton student. Nobody is really in Walmart macking.
If you want to transfer go ahead. Hampton will still have its prestigious reputation and there will be no love lost. Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. It may not be Hampton's fault completely...there3 may be some adjustments you need to make.
But hey whatever floats your boat or finds your lost remote.
You see, this is what happens when you settle for a sub-par carbon copy as opposed to the original!
Sweetie, trust this:
IF HOWARD WERE THE BEST HBCU IN THE COUNTRY, I WOULD BE THERE.
Just something to think about... if I could have went to Morehouse, I would have.
And I'll send you copies of all the begging Howard did to get me to go there  ... So much for originals.
I'm done.
