I was just wondering how being a legacy works. There are NO Greeks in my family whatsoever so this wouldnt be applied to me...but I know that if your mother/father was apart of a certain organization...that you are obviously a legacy to that organization....but can you be a legacy to a greek org thru a brother/sister, a cousin, aunt, uncle,or grandparent? Im just basically asking are you only a legacy if your parent is a member to that org, or any family member you have in that organization makes you a legacy?

A Delta is a legacy only if her mother, daughter, or sister is a Delta. But this does not guarantee membership in Delta. My baby sister starts college this fall and wants to pursue Delta, but she is not guaranteed membership. She must meet all requirements and receive chapter vote like any other applicant.
I love my sorority!
hmmmm... what if she is adopted?
hmmmm... If they can trace a direct line from a founder, but lets say that her Gma, Ma, and aunties are all AKAs.. then is she still considered a "legacy" of sorts?
I'm sure Inquiring minds want to know.. lol.. shyt.. I couldn't get legacy anyway.
Adoption is recognized. And if she traces her roots to a founder, then she only has bragging rights. I have outlined what a legacy is in Delta, and it does not recognize lineage from a founder, unless she is your mother, daughter or sister as previously stated.

Sweetie dont frown, u dont want to get in off of legacy. Its like u are already in before ur actually in. U wanna work for yours. Trust, u will feel better and i will get more respect as well. Like i said, i know a legacy thats named 100% guaranteed b/c her mom is an AKA and her mother was VP of Student Affairs so she was automatically in. I dont think they liked her very much either. I never saw her hang with t hem, then she got that line name, then i think she had some issues. That broad was walkin around in her braw and **** shorts on the phone in the hallway one day. I was like ewwwww. I know she saw me frown up at her
I have a friend who got into AKA as a legacy, but she worked for hers. She had to use the legacy clause because of some of her shady prophytes who she couldn't trust to vote her in the regular way. She had to pledge really hard, though. BUt they respected her a great deal. She is also still very active although she has graduated. I wonder if those silly prophytes of hers are as active and successful? You can't judge someone just because they are legacy.

oh well thats good. Im glad she made it through all of that. Sad she had to go through that b/c of some stupid Prophytes
But I was talkin about the Legacy that skates in
Thanx for the replies.. I'm not adopted, but my friend is the great niece of one of the founders of AKA.. so I was just wondering.. This other girl I know pledged AKA the regular way (no weekend mission.. she had a rigorous pledging period) and she was a legacy, but she didn't tell them until after she crossed.. Her momma was so proud of her, cuz you know, she got in on her own merit, not her mom's .... her and her brother did that (not telling them until after) for AKA and AphiA respectively... It was so funny.. cuz you know the point at which the AphiAs take pics and then do their steps at their probate show? Well, their dad came outta nowhere and threw up the sign by his son for a pic, and the brothers in the chapter were shocked!! They have so much more respect for him now...
Ok..I've been reading about this legacy question. I definite don't think it should be used in trying to be apart of any organiation :x . Even though you get in you will definitely not be accepted as a soror. About the girl who had to use it to get it but was then accepted, she should have done what she was supposed to do so that was not an excuse. The only thing that would be accepted is if the prophyte had a personal grudge against her. You have to work hard to be apart of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. It's wrong trying to get into an organization off of someone else's strength...do it on your own....trust me you would appreciate it sooooo much more. I am pround that she did work for it afterall.
Second to none by merit and culture
I know i delta mentioned that they consider a sister a legacy what about other sororities. if someones sister is a member of your org do you consider her a legacy or does it only apply to your mother/grandmothr?
