Ethel Hedgemen Lyle is a famous Howard Graduate, for obvious reasons, those who know what she did will agree.By the way,she also graduated from my high school 8)
P. Diddy never graduated and he can hardly be considered in the same league as say, a Thurgood Marshall. If it were not for the fact that he donated 500,000 to Howard back in 1999 then he wouldn't even have been awarded the "Honorary" degree in arts and letters which he so proudly displays.
When I think of the prestigious alumni of Howard Unversity, I think of the people that actually have a proven lasting effect on society. I'm thinking of the founders of fraternities and sororities that created organizations that transcended the boundaries of "the Yard" in order to make a difference. (There are too many of them to name.) I'm also thinking of people who are famous on another scale like the two Rhodes scholars that Howard has produced, just in the last five years. While these people aren't "famous" in the sense that the masses know their names, I believe that their presence is felt just the same within their respective circles.
Vernon Jordan (activist -presidential advisor)
Douglas Wilder (first Black govenor of VA)
Ralph Bunche (nobel laureate)
Jessye Norman (opera star)
Andrew Young (former U.N. Ambassador, former Mayor of Atlanta)
and yes... the list goes on and on.....
