Black sororities Posted on 01-03-2004
In Rod We Trust

Just a question out of curiosity...... Why do you think the Deltas have 200,000+ members while the AKAs have 170,000+? Could it be that the Deltas are more popular and if so why? Or are the AKAs a little more selective with who they accept into their organization? All my friends want to pledge Delta, but I don't so I'm wondering why are they more appealing to potential pledgees? I'm thinking that maybe people think the AKAs are stuck up or something like that. Any insight?

^^^Nonsense... PURE ignorance Don't worry about who is joining what sorority and why. If you base your opinions on that, you're not ready. Just find what works for you. It may not be AKA or DST.
Wow ..It is not that serious...

Thanks for replying, but I was just asking out of curiousity.......Why is DST more appealing to women? It hasn't changed my mind, I'm still gonna pledge what I want to pledge. To me, both the sororities are the same and they do the same thing. If u look on both their websites they both basically have the same five target areas. They both support the black community and education and diseases that affect us. The difference is only in how they do this. Neither one is better that the other. So why do more women pledge DST in your opinion?

That's a strong assumption there.... more appealing or more accepting? We don't know. But don't disrespect my sorority or DST by saying "they're the same." That shows, more than anything, you haven't done your research. If you base your statements simply off what you've seen on our national websites, you haven't done your research. The fact that you use the word "pledge" so freely shows that you haven't done your research. The fact that you ASSUME the sorority you choose would accept you shows that you haven't done your research. Nobody can tell you which sorority is "better," it comes down to what is a better match for YOU. That's 100% subjective. Realize that neither AKA or DST have membership drives... we are not in competition for the most members. Figure out what you want in a sorority and then determine if one of the chapters on your campus complements that. If you're trying to be down just for some letters, press on...

First of all, I am not a child! It is not an assumption it is a fact based on what both organizations have recorded.

Nope, that's an assumption. The fact is that Delta has more members than AKA, it is NOT a fact that more women are interested.

I really don't understand why so many members of the D9 are soooo sensitive. Every comment that is made concerning you is replied with a harsh remark. I am not assuming that any organization will accept me........I just know that right now I am doing the best that I can so that I will be a desired candidate i.e. community service, gpa, and participating in their events. As far as researching, I have researched as much as I can, but somethings are on a need to know basis and right now I don't need to know. No one is going to volunteer any information to me such as when to say, "pledge". This was not a question to upset anyone. When and if I cross I want to try to turn things around at least on my campus. All of my friends want to pledge DST, but if I don't know why how can I change it? And yes I know its not a competition but it often seems as if the AKAs are overlooked. As an organization with goals you want the best and most talented people, but at my school it seems as if they would rather go elsewhere.

lol, I'm trying to figure that out myself. And has the nerve to act like we, as Greeks, are overly sensitive instead of trying to determine what it is about her approach that's so OFFENSIVE! lol... it's a trip
