After watching a relative of mine who plays football for Carolina the past couple of weeks, I remembered when he was living in Laurinburg, people used to compare us all the damn time. I was one of the smartest kids in the state, but he was the all star athelete. All of our classmates used to say "How come you ain't all athletic like Jacques?" Granted, I did play sports, but some people don't count golf and tennis as a sport... :? I doubt anyone said much to him about me besides "Ya'all are actually realted?!" But I never heard the end of it... even when he left Laurinburg. Regardless, now Jacques is being actively recruited by the NFL, pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Two years ago I believe and is once again on everyone's watch list. While I'm still hitting the books. Once again when I go home, I hear "Why aren't you all althletic like Jacques?!" from people who aren't leaving that lil podunk place while I'm here, once again, hitting the books. Keep in mind, that I have no grudge against the guy or anything, and our family, including him, recognize that I'm doing my thing just as much as he is and always has (as a matter of fact, the family was MORE impressed that I was going to A&T on a full ride than the fact that he was starting on UNC's football team), however its irritating that people that are going nowhere in life don't see this...
My point is:
Who in your family does everyone else either in the family or in the community try to compare you to?
And this is my cousin:
Tailback #20 Jacques Lewis
My father says I act like my mother
My mother says I act like my father
they both say I act like Andre...
..but yeah, I can relate to that bein' compared thing, cuz whenever I'm at home I got all these "Chathamanians" talkin' bout, "man, yo brother showl can play basketball. Why you don't play no sports?" or the infinitely ridiculous and blindingly ignorant "Why yo' brother taller'n you?" I swear they need to just firebomb that whole town. Twice.
I don't think there is really anybody that I have been compared to like that, but I have a feeling that some of my friends and cousin's parents compare their kids to me. Most of my friends in the neighborhood are doin alright, not too many are gangbangin or slangin, but most are at community colleges and didn't do too good in high school, and their parents always wished they were a bit more productive.

how the hell this dark skinned negro come from your light a** half baked side of the family??naw im just playing...
i think my post was erased but again *sigh*...people dont compare me with anyone, but I dont want my mom to compare me and my baby sis, because there is no way she can be me, and I dont want her to grow up thinking she has to achieve stuff just so she can live up to various expectations of her due to what ive done.....
I think that my family has finally accepted the fact that all 6 of us (me and my five siblings) are too different to be compared...I never really got compared to anyone except my parents (they say I act like my mom, and I really do)
and they also think I'm like my father was when he was younger (except I aint as wild as he was when he was my age)
