Do any of you think that Marching Band should be considered a sport??
I am a Trombone player and low brass section leader(lieutenant) and I work my section with laps, pushups, situps, crunches, everything(and im the only girl lowbrasser, lol)...but for some reason some people think that Marching band people dont work that hard and dont consider it a sport...I believe that if a group is doing something that requires strenous practice, hard work and determination then it should be a sport...(just like cheerleading is now considered a sport, lol)

Hey, what up! I play in a marching band in the ATL and we are always running laps, working out, sweating, and etc. We PROBABLY work harder than our football team, no scratch that we DO work harder. We get out there and do more work on the field than any football team. We even leave our footprints on the field. We draw the crowd to the games. Band is even all season. It never stops. I still don't think it should be considered a sport though. It's just a very dedicated activity that just anyone can't do.
wass up poody, im in the marching band in ATL also people just don't realize how much hard work we put in this "activity" they may see the KRUNKNESS on the field but all of that is dedication it should be a sport because we compete against other bands across the field holla back
oh yeah one correction, is that we get money simply cause our community supports us more(cause our sports teams suck anyways lol)..cause i wish that all towns would follow that example and help out BAND STUDENTS who really deserve it, cause all of yall do great work...and if poody we all have different styles..but if you came to nationals how you described it, yall would be laughed off the field in front of a few thousand at nationals...BUT I BELIEVE THAT ALL BANDS NO MATTER WHAT STYLE ARE GREAT..so dont hate congratulate, lol

WE DO COLLEGE PARADES COMPETITIONS AND MORE
IF YOUR SCHOOL HAS A CRUNK BAND LIKE OURS THEN THE BAND IS THE ONE THAT DRAW THE CROWD TO THE FOOTBALL GAME
EVERY BODY IS WAITING TO SEE THE HALFTIME SHOW

Yeah I think that marching band is a sport.... I dont play in a marching band but i travel with an hbcu Marching Band here in NC and I must say that people dont understand the work that band members have to do in order to have a Successful band. Honestly if your not at a band practice then you dont know what goes on. They work hard to keep each section in line & discipline they sacrifice ALOT just to be who they are. & sometimes they are the entertainment and the hype and crunk ness at the football games (if you have a team that ****).
Whoever said that band isnt a sport or shouldnt be a sport is practically out of their wits, and thats fo dang sho. I dont know about anywhere else but at Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL better known as Tha Gump. We drill year around rain, sleet, hail or snow, from the simpliest thing like a sit to runnin a mile. We keeps it Gangsta and Crunklllllly. The Price of Glory is High (ASU Bae) is what we say, if you wanna look, sound, or dance good enough you have to work hard it, and youll do whatever it takes ya digg. So If ya crunk come to Tha GUMP! I disagree... just because you work hard when your in a marching band & might even work harder than the football team... that does not make marching band a sport.
The purpose of sports is to win games PERIOD they don't put on shows & they don't do it periodically for competitions... marching band is definitely not a sport because going by what PoodyB says... and I agree.. marching bands rely solely on the football to exist...
Not tryin to put down anybody who thinks that marching band is a sport & lawd knows I love a good band but... personally I don't think it classifies to be in the same league as basketball... football... baseball... u get it.

Ummm...ok ya'll know i've been quiet for a while....but i jus had to comment on this one. Ok, i see where u comin from bout the sports thang and all...but um...bands do win PERIOD. Dont matter if its at a game, show, competition-whateva, same thing. Football teams "perform" out on the field...do they not?? Jus in a different way. And maannn...dont get me started on band practice and band camp.....i felt like i was on the damn football team!! :evil: Even a football player told me that it looked like we had it worse than they did!! <----now u know thats a shame. But yea i think it should be considered a sport if i have anything to do wit it....cuz if damn cheerleading can be considered a sport (and they dont even do half the stuff we do!!!! :twisted: )then band should have been considered a sport. *And cheerleaders also rely on football/b-ball teams...so why are they a sport??? * Aight yall that was ma two cents ...and oh im not in the band (play a instrument)...im on the flag line-yea we were right with the band sufferin too. :?

Oooooohhhh so now ALL marching bands do is win. So when I'm at a football game and the band performs at half-time what I'm actually seeing them do is compete... they are trying 2 win & all along I've been thinking I'm just seeing a performance. So, this marching band that is competing against.... the other marching band, when half-time is over and the game is continuing I'm at my seat wondering.... hey! forget the football game, who won the marching band half-time show!
BUT! The marching band at my school is no joke & its only a HS band so... I understand about the hard work & the sweat & pain. AND.... BabyDee...if cheerleading is classified as a sport :? then there is no reason that marching band shouldn't be... & one day, with the way things are going, it probably will.
Everybody who thinks marching band should be a sport just think about it. Band is a form of entertainment while the game or sport is going on. You don't see a football game going on the same time as a baseball game. Why would they have two sports at the same event. If you were in a sport you could probably understand where I'm coming from. Just because you work hard and sweat your **** off doesn't mean it has to be a sport. it just means you're dedicated and good.
Um...ok...if u think band shouldn't be considered a sport....then wtf is cheerleading considered a sport??!?! they don't do sh....and they are there to basically entertain-if that much...jus basically to make noise. I think if band is not going to be considered a sport then they need to kick cheerleading off the list too........
