A friend of mine told me that you are never suppose to shake a delta or AKA's hand. She said that one time when she was introducing her self to one of them and she reached out to shake their hand they just stood there and looked at her like she was crazy. what is the reason behind this? and is this looked down upon?
no she said that this happened at a intrest meeting and they wouldnt shake anyone's hand.
Oh well duh, your interested in my organization? Me shaking your hand is me misleading you. I hate for you to think you got in and you didnt, then all i will hear is is "well you shook my hand!"

it sounds as if said person was trying to mingle or introduce themselves...i dont think they were tryna 'dap' them up, but i always could b wrong
Right. Personally, i think that was downright nasty. We had a Meet n Mingle Informational last night and the reason we had it was for people to come up and get to know us better and chat with us because we are regular people just like you and we aren't any better. I encourage aspirants of Zeta to come and chit chat with us. It helps us to get to better know what type of person you are and it helps you to know that we are just a cool bunch of females and dont worry about being better than anyone else

Hmm i dunno....
I mean how would you be mis-leading them by shaking their hands?
I think they are MIS-leading themselves if they think " Oh she shook my hand so I'm in"...
Thats their fault for assuming....and if they ever came to me and said " Well you shook my hand....blah blah"...
I'd tell them ..." You know what people say about those who assume right?"
Cuz they want what I have.
If I know you I know but at that point in time you need to be listening for directions and instructions rather than dapin me up for some cool points.
A simple handshake is considered "dapin" you up "for some cool points"? :?

That is what I meant by saying that...im saying that sometimes people take the wrong idea if i was to shake your hand at a interest meeting. Some people in orgs. think that a person shaking a hand at the interest meeting is **** up. Yes, it's really all about assumptions. I agree, my bad, i guess i MISLEAD myself into understanding what I was trying to say... dont hate me yo.

Misleading them???
No, how about common courtesy.
Well I agree with what you both are saying, but they are people who think or more like think they have to butter up to a person in their prospective organization just to be down. I dont want you to do that, i want you to be yourself and impress me just because of who you are. I will just say that some people take the whole "how do I show that I am interested" to another level that isnt necessary. But I can understand why she did not get a hand shake back.
It is common courtesy but i mean people see it differently. I personally dont even get that comfortable with someone who is at an interest meeting. I will speak and hold a short conversation, but i dont do any kind of touching. I dont give you the chance to even try and say that I did something wrong. But homegirl said above, people assume.
Sorry ya'll I worded my comment wrong and I've realized it. Okie Dokie?
I REALLY don't think something as simplistic as hand shake means more than "hi...how r u?" Thats some of the problems we encounter with "Greeks" "Non-Greeks" "tryin to be down" and so on and so forth. Everything isn't about the organization at first glace.... u think maybe they were just being polite. So if people come to thee meetings and DON'T speak..are they not being rude??
