:!: Batte Of The Choirs eveybody :!:
Forget battle of the bands, it's the battle of the voices. Lift Every Voice and Sing yall. As a marauder of Central State University, I am a proud member of the Central State University Chorus- the best choir in the land. This small university in Wilberfoce, Ohio is taking over. Under the direction of Mr. William Caldwell, the Central State University Chorus is by far the best University Choir. Grammy nominated, internationally acclaimed, and trend setting. This Choir sings with major ochestras and inportant government functions. If you think your choir can compete, bring it on. I would like to hear your comments.

Well even though this topic's kinda been done already, I'll put my two cents in once again...
One of the best college/university gospel choirs around is the New Life Inspirational Gospel Choir aka the Atlanta University Center Gospel Choir. We're about lifting up God, speading the gospel, and reaching out to the community.
We also promote unity cause we're not just from one school, we got members from Morehouse, Spelman, Clark-Atlanta, Morris Brown (yeah there are still some folk there), Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Georgia Perimeter, Atlanta Metropolitan, Interdenominational Theological Center, Kennesaw State University, Luther Rice Seminary, and Emory University.
Also New Life is unique in the fact that we don't leave anybody out. Quite a few school gospel choirs (and a lot of concert choir/glee clubs) require you to audition to get in, we don't. Also everybody in the choir is there cause they want to be there (not just to get some music credit).
And guess what? New Life operates by itself financially. We raise money by ministering in the community and at various campus events. Our schools don't give us thousands of dollars or support us financially like most state colleges or big universities.
And even though accomplishments are nice that shouldn't be what your choir is about. If all your choir has to be proud of is a few shiny gold-plated trophies and plaques, that's not saying much. I think it should be about what type of impact ya'll are making in the lives of others (especially if you're a gospel choir). And that's what I'll ask everyone who comes with their favorite choir, after the concert is over and everyone has gone home, what have you really accomplished?
And I know what some folk are gonna say. They'll be like, "You're just saying that cause New Life hasn't any accomplishments." That's totally untrue. New Life has performed with a number of award winning artists including Richard Smallwood, Yolanda Adams, Hezekiah Walker and Love Fellowship Crusade Choir, Sounds of Blackness and Darious Brooks. We have also opened for Fred Hammond, Michelle Williams, the Canton Spirituals, the Mississippi Mass Choir, and Bishop Clarence McClendon. We also traveled all over the country ministering through song. In fact in two weeks we'll be headed to Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Francisco to tour. Most importantly hundreds (if not thousands) of people have given their lives to Christ as a direct result of hearing New Life.
So yeah, New Life is great New Life Inspirational Gospel Choir

I think all choirs souind good in their own way, when it comes to glorifying GOD there should be no competition. The Bowie State Univerity Gospel Choir not only sounds good, but when we sing we're are ministering to those who need to hear it. Thats what it really should be about, saving souls.
Yeah, I put my two cents for New Life, but as for other choirs or whatever, here's who I love:
Rutgers University Liberated Gospel Choir - New Jersey - This choir is off the chain, they came down and they were not only ministering through song, but they had dancers and mimes as well. And even though they weren't super high in number, they sang something great, they straight took the entire church into worship.
University of Michigan Gospel Chorale - Michigan - Another great gospel choir. There sound is amazing, and they roll DEEP. And they're a group of friendly loving people as well. I definitely encourage you to check out their website at: www.umich.edu/~gchorale/index.htmlVoices of Testimony At Kent State University - Ohio - I love this choir, cause they straight break that stereotype that all gospel choirs or gospel artists are black. They have a wondeful variety of races, ethnicities and cultures in this choir. And they're all there for one common purpose, to lift up the name of God. It's a beautiful thing. Check out their site at: http://dept.kent.edu/stuorg/voices/
Aiight people. This is just a topic about who has the baddest choirs around. I'm not saying that there is a battle of the choirs, but hey if there was one (and there should be one), I'm all for it.
Now back to the CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY CHORUS
It's nice to just have a gospel choir and do the songs and style that us black pleople can do very well. But when you can do gospel music very well AND you can do classical, latin, german, japanses, etc. very well, then that's when you stand out. This is not just a topic about Gospel choirs. This is a topic about who can sing very well and have everyone, no matter what race, economic status, or culture recognise you and give their approval. In short, a choir that can turn head and make people shout out, "That black choir can sing our stuff better than we can" Can you feel me. Do you get where I am going with this.
NOW- THE CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY CHORUS can do this. Can your choir do this? Until you can.........YOU CAN NEVA EVA, NEVA EVA, NEVA EVA, GOT ON OUR LEVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
HOLLA
FOR GOD, FOR CENTRAL, FOR STATE/////////////////.................
On a sort of side note...that's one thing I love about the gospel industry...I'm not even very religious, but the competition and what hip-hop culture promotes sometimes disgusts me. People come on stage wearing anything to nothing, cursing and talking about **** and "hoes" and everything else, and talk about "First I'd like to thank God..."
Gospel...there's no competition, just love and praising God and thanking him...and gospel stars always wear very tasteful and stylish clothing when on awards shows or when performing. There's true unity in the industry, and they make beautiful, uplifting music. *sighs*

See that's where you're wrong... You've limited gospel music to "a style of music that black people can do well". That's really a shame if that's all you think gospel music is. And from what you're saying about Central, ya'll just sing for people's approval. What underlying meaning does your music have? And like I said before after the concert is over and everyone has gone home, what have you really accomplished?
But if you want to talk about a college group that does all types of music, Morehouse College Glee Club has it hands down...
First of all, this topic was mean to stirr up some friendly competition, not to start a hate war about who is or who isn't right with God. Yes, all of our efforts are to lift up the praises of God. But, if we are too uptight to take some friendly competition, then I don't know what to tell you. I'm just trying to put the spotlight on choirs. We hear about the battle of the bands all the time, what about all of the great choirs out there. Take it for what it is and don't try to take it to a level where it doesn't need to go.
Thank you.........
 PROBLEM? okay Vriginia State I have a bone to pick with you... tonights performance at Mt. Olivett Church in Glenn Allen, VA.
WAS A MESS!!! AWARD WINNING CHOIR..REALLY LETS THINK ABOUT IT AGAIN BEFORE WE TELL OTHERS THOSE LIES!!!! I MEAN BASED ON THAT PERFORMANCE THE ONLY AWARD YOU ARE GETTING IS "THE BEST LAUGH IN A LONG TIME AWARD." YOU ALL WERE A HOT MESS..I MEAN I THOUGHT YOU WERE ON FIRE FOR GOD..OR AT LEAST THATS WHAT YOU ALL SAY..THE ONLY THING THAT WAS ON FIRE WAS THOSE FLAMMERS YOU CALL TENORS IN THE CHOIR I MEAN REALLY CAN WE SAY ABOMINATION!!! AND THE CHURCH DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH NURSES TO ACOMIDATE YOUR FALLING OUT IN THE "SPIRIT"..CAN WE SAY MONEY SCAM WHAT A WAY TO END YOUR CONCERT. AND THE NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO WEAR MASK IN YOUR PERFORMANCE REMEMBER THAT THE CHURCH DOES NOT CELEBRATE HOLLOWEEN. AND YOU CAN NOT HIDE SPIRITS FROM GOD HE KNOWS AND SEE'S EVERYTHING. SO THIS IS YOUR PERSONAL INVITATION TO SEE GOD IN ACTION...COME TO WITNESS THE VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY CHOIR AS WE SING THE PRAISES TO THE KING FOR WE KNOW HE IS THE KING OF KINGS... EVERY THURSDAY @ 11:00 AM IN COBURN HALL. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!!
VUU (IT'S THE REAL THING!!)

BUT JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, THE GOSPEL CHORALE HAS ACHEIVED MANY GOALS IN LIFE, AND ITS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO WILL MAKE US STRONGER. ITS A BLESSING THAT WE ARE IN PETERSBURG WITH THE BEST CHOIR IN VIRGINIA, AND WITH ALL OF THE CHOIRS THAT SURROUND THE RICHMOND AREA, IT'S ASHAME THAT EVERYONE CALLS ON THE VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY GOSPEL CHORALE TO DO A TRAMENDOUS BREAK THROUGH PERFORMANCE, AND DON'T EVEM ASK UNION TO PERFORM, AND UNION, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WON A COMPETITION, AND AS FAR AS VSUGC, WE ARE ANOINTED, AND NO MATTER WHAT WE GO THROUGH, GOD ALWAYS HAS OUR BACKS. SO IF U HAVE A PROBLEM WITH VIRGINIA STATE GOSPEL CHORALE, LETS DO A PERFORMANCE TOGETHER, TO SEE WHO REACHES OUT TO THE PEOPLE. WHERE IS UNIONS GOSPEL COIR, I NEVER KNEW THAT THEY EVEN HAVE ONE, BECAUSE THE SCHOOL ITSELF IS MESSED UP, AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE WHO TALK ABOUT OUR CHOIR. WE ARE GOING TO BACK COMPETITION AGAIN TO DEFEND OUR TITLE, BECAUSE VSUGC IS THE 2003 NATIONAL GOSPEL CHOIR CHAMPIONS. SO UNION U ALL STAY BLESSED, AND MAYBE U ALL COULD LEARN SOMETHING FOR THE VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY GOSPEL CHORALE.
