....when you see a person...do you see just that person...as in...that individual...or....do you see Black/White/Hispanic/Asian/Native American/etc.etc.etc....?
and if you see their race before actually seeing themselves....do you see their nationality or simply their "blanket" label (i.e. when u see Hispanics...do u just think "Hispanic/Latino" OR "Mexicans"...since many Black people think that's all Hispanics can be :?.....or do you see Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban, Salvadorian, etc. etc. etc.???)???
and when it comes to Blacks, if you see us by our color/race before you see who we were behind that...do you see complexion...or simply "Black"?

one thing two friends (Jackie & Wesley) & i were discussing one day on the phone....
when you enter a classroom (or any other place with some or a lot of people) for the first time....do you automatically scan the room for Black people (or people of your race, whichever race you are)?? if there is, say, a room full of White people and like two specs of Black, lol...do you scurry on over to those two individuals???
if not, what do you do?i'll address the 1st half of my inquiry later....but for the 2nd half....Jackie says she doesn't do that....she just looks for the person with the friendliest & most "welcoming" face....that race doesn't ever play into that when she does....
Wesley says he does do that....he says if he looks into a classroom and sees one full of all White people, he'll turn around and go to another one, lol....and that he looks for any brothas or sistas in the crowd whenever in that situation....
& as for me....like I told them....i don't necessarily pay attention to the racial makeup of the room as soon as i go in it....but i might get a brief feel for it, partially for the reason of seeing if i actually know anyone in the class....after it appears that i don't, i just find a seat wherever (i usually prefer to sit on the far side and/or back of a classroom...because i like to know ALL of what is going on).....and THEN...once i'm SEATED....THAT'S when i might scan the room to observe the racial makeup.....

I agree with most of what you said on both posts. When I walk into a room I actually just sit wherever without observing at all, but if I ever do really observe I look for people of the same social class or people that like the same things as me. It really dont matter whether you black, white, hispanic, or asian. I'll kick it with anybody thats cool and I will back off of anybody thats not despite race.
Now with no. 1 when I see people I usually dont see race unless they stand out. I grew up in a basically 100% black town and if I see a white/hispanic/asian person walkin down the street Im goin to see race. I usually dont blanket races, if I do its on accident. The school that I go to there are ALOT of hispanics and the bulk of them are mexican so sometimes I just might see somebody (in school) and automatically classify them as mexican. But outside of school I dont blanket races. O yea and considerin the fact that I'm the type of person I am (humorous) if I see a lightskinned black person I call them white or like a REAL dark skin black person they straight up african in my book lol. But overall social class touches my eye more than race does.
yeah when i see someone walking down the street, i usually see that person as their race..sometimes i stereotype too...right now i'm very paraniod of black males...don't knock me dammit i got robbed a few days ago...yeah i guess sometimes i negatively stereotype my own race just walkiing down the street o in the mall...
well i negativly stareotype other races too...white blacks hispanics...
yeah and where ever i go i scan the room for other black folk and make sure that they are "behaving" properly

Sorry to hear you got robbed, that's scary.
My father is a contractor and from a business aspect I see negative race stareotyping alot.
My father tries to employ and rebuild the african american community, therefor he tries to hire minorities. The people he hire go through an application process, just with any other job, but the ones who quit on him the most are black people. Alot of times they won't come in for a day or two and he has to track them down.
Some many black people he try to help out or be extremely fair with want to ask him for the hook up or ask can he do a job for way less than he charges, especially when the work requires expense items.
So, now when he does a job for a minority or black person, he thinks about them asking him for the HOOK UP!!!
