Ok, i am interested in sorority X and sorority Y. I went to the first nite of sorority Y's rush, Monday, because up until a year ago-ive always wanted to be apart of them, until now.
So i go to their rush, because i am really interested in pledging. Well to my dissapointment, they turned me off very quickly. I didnt expect everything to run perfect, but i expected some order. The "games" they had us play, were very disorganized, only two of the sorors talked the whole time-the other ones either a.)werent there or b.) chillin, eatin and talkin to their brothers. The whole meeting-to me and a friend of mines-was a hot mess. I just thought that during rush, the sorority was supposed to be setting an example of what their organization was all about, and if they cant even come together and run their meetings right-what makes me think that they can run their organization with some discipline? And their website-is like a year old-how are you supposed to be helping people who are intrested if u have info from last school year? I dont know-maybe i am just being too picky, but im the type of person who is all about perfection in everything. And sorority X is making my decision easier because they seem so much more organized-at a greek social in the beggining of the year-they gave out pamphlets and were the most friendliest out of all the other sororities, they have an up-to-date web page and i received a quick response from one of the sorors. And right now im really leaning towards them now after seeing what sorority Y has to offer. Yes i have done the research, the reading-talking to people in those certain organizations, but after that meeting i really didnt feel comfortable continuing to be apart of them, therefore i didnt go back because i dont want to do somethin i will regret later.Do you think im asking for too much as in the little things (web pages, organized rush, communication w/ the sorors)?
People are getting geeked over stereotypes and basing their 'decisions' off of them: "the _____s are the best steppers and they are so crunk. Everyone likes them because they are so cool and the _____s are their brothers....ooooh I wanna be a _____!" or "Man, the _____s are known for being the most handsome, plus they get a lot of girls...man I wanna pledge _____!"
It all goes downhill from there.

Please stop through evry two weeks or so.
As we will need to use this quote again for future threads.
Or you could issue a general release of rights now and I can use it freely.
I WANT TO COSIGN WITH EVERYTHING YALL HAVE SAID...
Everyone has basically said everything that I was going to say...
But to the girl who started this post... I am just happy to see that you are tryin to pursue a perspective organization for all of the right reasons...and I am also very pleased to notice that you can pretty much see through all of the BS (well not all, but a majority of it). You arent just settling for what everybody else wants to do, you are "doin what the hell you wanna do". Just remember that in the end, every chapter of every organization is completely different. There may be plenty of similarities but, no two chapters are exactly the same. So dont let the actions of one chapter dictate and control your decisions, because you dont want to short-change yourself. Remember that the majority of the time one spends in an organization will be after undergrad. I know that I am a member for life, not just for 3 short years.
Thanks for everyone who replied-all comments were helpful to me....And ur right (DatMan), what matters the most is that you are apart of the organization, not jus that chapter. But when i was having those uncomfortable feelings i knew i had to stop, and really re-evaluate the situation and make a definate decision, because this is not a game, its serious-a committment that you take on for the rest of your life. Thanks again for the comments. 8)

Since no one else has asked, what have you decided to do? Try again for Sorority X, or wait for Sorority Y to have a Rush?
Ive decided to go for sorority X (the one who i attended one night of rush) again next year. Im glad that i waited because i really needed to make a firm decision as to what i want to do. And after long hard thought, research-reading-and what not, i felt that sorority X, as a whole, is an organization that i would be honored to be affliated with. And like someone posted-its not the chapter, but the organization. Yea sorority Y may seem like they have it all together-but as a whole, i didnt see myself affliated with them, i liked what sorority X stood for better. So be on the look out-spring '06 i may have some letters.
Dang I'm late on this one. . .
I'm glad you chose to stick with your original leanings. . . after all. You never know what games they might have been playing to test you all, and see how badly you wish to become a member.
BTW, did you go to the RUSH or the INFORMATIONAL?
