Ok. I was on academic suspension for the fall 2004 semester, but would've been allowed to return for Spring 05 (current semester, about to be over). I didn't go because I didn't feel 100% ready.
The reason why I got on academic suspension in the first place was lack of interest + a full time job (with benefits). Plus, I had to "clean & dry" some stuff outta my life (long, complicated story). I wouldn't have been able to do that, work, and go to school. Keeping the lights on and eating edible food is much more important to me that taking classes.
Now, I gotta itch to go back, but I dont wanna go back as a full-time student....I kinda wanna 'ease' back into it becuz I'm scared that I'm gonna get the same result. Stuff seems REAL hopeless for me in the classroom, tho....If I go back to Alabama A&M, I'll be there for the next 4 YEARS because I only have 11 (eleven) TOTAL HOURS with a sad tearjerking GPA.
But, I dont know whether or not I should go back because I'm already in debt up to my eyeballs, as far as student loans go....and I refuse to owe somebody $$ + X% interest for the rest of my life. I kinda wanna pay it outta pocket so I'll actually feel obligated to do good....but I'm scared it's gonna be a waste of money. I thought about selling 'under the table' items to pay for school, OR to pay my way through life and get school loans/grants so I dont have to do any real 'work'.
What should I do?
See, when I first enrolled at A&M, the original plan was to take 12 hours (or less) a semester. I was gonna take my time and NOT rush NOTHING. So if I do go back this fall, I'll probably only take 2 classes.
Don;t be too quick to rule out the 2 year colleges. Go to a good one where your credits will be accepted by most schools in your state. Get academic advisement. Match the classes there to the course descriptions at AAAU and take your core courses at the 2 year, Same classes, taught at a slower pace. Some students at 4 year schools take classes at 2 year schools during the summer when they are home.
I was giving YOU advice. I got my stuff together! And I think my feet are a bit wetter than yours seeing that I have twice as many credits as you...

Sweetheart, I know you were giving advice and everything, but where I'm from, calling somebody lazy without looking at the situation from the both sides of the fence is called giving an "opinion". Harsh reality? Maybe so, maybe not. But since you haven't walked 3 steps in my shoes....you dont know if I was lazy or not. Sorry to break that one to you....but that's the 'harsh reality'.
I worked 2 jobs AND tried the school thing at the same time. And just because you're "feet are wetter" due to more credit hours doesn't mean that I wouldn't be on track if things worked out differently. I don't know about your personal situation, but I wasn't fortunate enough to have parents wiring living money to my bank account like a lot of my friends did. I had to do that on my own. That's what I call a "man up".
But the advice from you, and everybody else, was sho'll nuff appreciated. It's all luv over here, homegirl.

I don't know why you are all actin like you are too good for a junco! They are for people in situations like yours...
I dont think you are exploring all you options. Its like a jobless, husbandless, child-support checkless mother tryna choose between shopping at walmart or Neiman Marcus. It is obvious that it makes more sense for her to go to walmart.
She will get practically the same thing (in terms of clothing, etc.), but the price there is more suitable for her situation. Besides, Walmart was made for people in her situation. She will be able to get MORE of what she needs with the money she has. Junior colleges are made for people IN YOUR SITUATION. :???: It only makes sense.
BTW... I never called you lazy
I actually gave the juco thing a thought or two, but the relationship between AAMU and Calhoun Community College (local JUCO) is kinda screwed up. Its like, AAMU only takes 'selective' courses from Calhoun.
I know of some folks who took basic courses at CCC, and were expecting AAMU to accept all their earned hours, but some of their hours were basically rejected by AAMU (for some odd reason).
If I do end up paying outta pocket, I prolly would go to the JUCO, but I'd have to get with AAMU first to make sure they know what I'm trying to do. I really dont wanna go thru the headache of registering at Calhoun (JUCO), and having any earned credits rejected from AAMU.
