i was wondering if anyone on this site has went from an hbcu 2 pwi. i think i may have 2 do that soon. i am kind of worried that i may not like it. please share your thoughts.
Well, I can't really speak for anybody else on this issue, so I'm just going to share with you some of my experiences of transitioning from an HBCU to a PWI.
The main reason that I chose to attend a PWI is because the school has something that I thought I would be interested in studying, and I was pleased with its high ratings. Plus, this is my first time ever attending a predominantly white school. So, needless to say, I was in a culture shock. I think I've got used to it, but I'm still learning how to adapt to the way things are set up here.
Overall, I like it where I am. There have been times when I liked being here, and there have been other times when I hated being here. What helps me to enjoy my experience is when I get involved in extracurricular activities. So, I guess it all depends on you, in terms of what choices you make. Don’t worry about not liking the school, because it’s possible that you might like attending that PWI more than that HBCU. I don’t know exactly what you plan to do, but if you surround yourself with positive people and make good contacts with certain individuals, then you should be okay. So, like I stated earlier, it all depends on you.
I hope that helps.
I'm not nowhere knocking anyone for attending an PWI, do what you do.
But I stayed at a PWI for a couple of days, Texas Tech to be exact, and I couldn't stand it. I just can't be around White folks for a long period of time for some reason. Plus, I went to college for the experience as well. If it was just solely for an education I would have gone to a "highly rated" PWI or just to community college.
People assume that Blacks are all alike but coming to an HBCU, there are so many different cultures and I am learning so much about my own people. It's so much variety at an HBCU.
A lot of people say things like "White folks adminstration is on point" or "I like white people and it's too many Blacks here". Make sure that you attend or transfer for the school, not because you think White is right. Whatever you do, just do you.

well this fall i'll be going to a pw school. It's cheaper, closer to home, more on campus activities, and they HAVE MY MAJOR. I think if I would have went to another HBCU I wouldn't have a problem. Then too I miss diversity.
