I've met several Blacks who are affiliated with non D9 orgs. At A&M, there are several Blacks affiliated with those, and I'm a part of one of them.

The only non D9 Greeks that we have at FISK is Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity...they have a handsign and a call, but I've only seen them do it at their probates. I think they stroll, but I'm not sure... again, I've only seen them do it at probates. Our school is trying to get a Christian fraternity/sorority on campus, but so far, that hasn't worked out yet. The attitude at FISK is, if you're not Divine Nine...you get NO respect.
Then your school's greek community needs a serious wake-up call....yall aren't the ONLY orgs in the world, ya know....
They are at Fisk and truthfully till I went to Indiana I hadn't heard of Black folks in orgs that weren't D9 or NPC/IFC. Everybody needs to do them but Nashville in general just ain't all that open to the non D9 presence. They won't get treated badly but folks will stare. Hell they stared when the Iotas showed up the spring I graduated because we were confused why someone would let their Alphas out in faded colors. Iotas were like a mythical creature in town before that. They were mostly cool but a few did get ummm "discussed" because they had dropped assorted fraternity lines allegedly.

I always wondered why the White members of KKPsi don't walk around with line names and numbers nor do they even go through the same pledge process as the Black members?

what is the deal people?!!! do we all have to let an org. make who we are? we join orgs for several reasons and one reason should not to be "to become somebody." Im in a non-greek org. (Swing Phi Swing) and people probably never heard of us but that doesnt matter cuz i did it for a reason, not to be popular. The Greeks (most of them) consider us "nobodies" or "wanna-be's" but we are neither and neither are other non-divine orgs. (And for further references...our "phi" is of kemetic (ancient egyptian) history, not greek. Wanna know more? Go read a book.) I mean damn, do the divine 9 have copyrights of the whole-line shirt/jacket and pledging process thing/theme? If somebody wants to make themself a line shirt then i feel as though that is no problem. They can make a line shirt that says Me Phi Me on the front and still be proud. Nobody should judge them cuz they did it. And another thing....just because you're NOT GREEK (meaning of the DIVINE 9) does not mean you are NOT somebody. I was somebody before i joined Swing, and I'm still somebody as a Swing and will always be. Im a very successful student and i get all my opportunities by BEING Monique the person not Monique the Swing. I dont let my org make me- oh no no. We really do need to WAKE UP!!! To all the non-greeks and non-divine 9 (people in orgs and people who are not) do what you do cuz you still somebody! P.S.-- i dont have anything against the divine 9, just speaking my mind on behalf of my BLACK people. PeAcE 2 aLL
