im attending my first black college tour in june. were going to atlanta, north carolina, d.c, baltimore, alabama, new orleans. i think its alot cheeper to just go on a tour insted of visiting each interested college saparetly. if you ever went on a black college tour, what can i expect and how did you like it?
i personally recommend going on a tour during ur spring break of your junior year that way you can get a sense of what the campus is really like
and yea i really hope ur not a senior cuz u would be messed up
I went on a hbcu tour spring break week of my junior and it was the best experience of my life. Had I not taken the tour I would have just attended FAMU and not looked into any other schools. When I went the Alabama recruiter persuaded me to attend ASU and needless to say this fall I will be a mighty hornet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going on a college tour isn't all that bad but then again it's a lot of fun!! The good thing is that you have the chance to ask all the questions about the college and you get to see what the internet and what books don't show you! You get to see step shows-when some are in line- you get to see what students wear and how BOLD some can be with their clothing...!!
With me the down side of the tour was the people going on the trip. This was my third year going on the same tour with only one person from all three years. There were girls who had this problem with thinking they owned the tour and they weren't really in the college tour mood i take it since everybody else went to see the WHOLE school and they kept to themself and that wasn't too cool. But hey I can't let that get to me cuz I know where I'm going and I know what I'm doing with my life! Just know that as much as it is fun it's what you make it throughout ya high school days! It's really good to go once you are in the 8th 9th and 10th grades...makes it a easier time on you when trying to find out where you belong and what types of schools you're looking for!
When I was on the bus I got all happy just from watching Drumline...**** I just got the fact that this is it for me and I'm going somewhere other than a damn Community College...Nothing bad with them but it's just not for me!
I went on my black college tour summer before my senior year in highschool (In July to be exact). It was the best!!! I actually want to go on another one, I wanna see if i can be a chapperone or something lol. The only thing i regret is that I didn't get a chance to really get to know the other people i was on a tour with. We all seemed to stay with the people from our areas. The Pasadena people stayed with each other, the Northern Cali people stayed with each other, and the LA people stayed with each other. Two of the people on tour with me actually did end up going to NSU with me. That was cool. I didn't go to many schools and we were rushed ALOT, we didnt get a chance to really enjoy the campus. But other than that we had alot of fun.
Morgan State - I loved this school when i first saw it, once they told me they didnt have curfews i knew that was the school for me lol
Howard U - Nice school, but it just was not for me. I wasn't feelin it. But my bestfriend loved it there.
Hampton - This was the school i was orginally interested in. But after the tour, i wasnt feeling the people there.
Norfolk State - I had never even heard of this school in my life lol. But I had a good feeling about the school. Gloria Rodriguez was a tour guide, and she was a really inspirational person. Plus NSU had a few cuties there.
North Carolina A&T - Another school i was orginally interested in, but after the tour i wasn't interested in the school anymore. I didn't really have that aggie pride. lol
Spelman - Nice school, my aunt went there. But it wasnt my school of choice.
Clark - I loooooved this school! This is the school I really wanted to go to! But my mother shot me down with a "no" lol. Our tour guide was really cute, it was love at first sight. I wish i could remember his name...I know he was a junior and a psych major.
Morehouse - I didn't get to see this school, only the boys in my tour group went.
Sorry about bringing you down memory lane with me. I mean i have alot more to say about the tour, but im gonna go ahead and wrap this up. Black college tours are not only a good experience for you, but it gives you a chance to see the colleges that you're interested in or the ones that keep sending you pamplets and letters and applications in the mail. Some people never see these schools. They apply and get accepted and then get mad once they see what the school looks like or how the school runs lol.
I went on a black college tour wit my church my sophmore year....We had tha best time...even though it was a church college tour ppl was still acting wild even tha chaporones were doin some naughty stuff  We started in florida and worked our way up tha coast...We visited FAMU, Morris Brown, Clark Atlanta, Spelman/Morehouse, Fisk, NCCU, NCA&T AGGIE PRIDE  , Virginia Union, Virginia State, and Hampton
