Sad to say, but I would take the career where I make beaucop money and dislike my job over loving what I do and living paycheck to paycheck.
I would never want to live paycheck to paycheck, and I imagine it's worse having the feeling of not knowing where your going to get the money from to pay your bills and buy groceries. I wanna be able to provide a good life for my family one day, and you can't do that without money.
I think once I make enough then I could switch careers and do something I love for a smaller amount of money.
If I love my job, but I'm living paycheck-to-paycheck, I'm gonna go to my employer and let him/her know that I can't live check to check.
Chances are, if I love the job, I'm probably gonna be good enough to be worth more than chump change.
If they can't comply, I leave.
You're not forced to live check-to-check. If you're not living within your means, narrow the gap a little, save the difference, and build up extra money over a certain period of time. By this time, you SHOULD be making more $$, salary wise.
I'm doing that as we speak.

That is the perfect answer.
Get yo money first and THEN fall back.
I feel like you gotta do something you can love or grow to love to do, but if that certain thing doesn't pay well, you gotta find something else that you can love to do.
But no matter what you have to remember that you gotta be a man, and you have to grow up and support yourself and/or your family. Even if you're not able to find a job that you love.
I feel you on that...
But its like in this situation its the extremes of both. Im sorry but I dont see myself workin paycheck to paycheck at a job. How can you love a job that is paying you so lil...being all depressed and sh*t when you get your check...that happiness you got for the job will go STRAIGHT out the door. Im good on that.
But at the same time...It would be depressing to be stuck at a job for 30, 40 years doing dumthin that isnt interesting you or makes you happy. Granted money isnt EVERYTHING but I really wanna be as well off as possible, and if I gotta sacrifice my happiness at aj ob to give my family the best at what I can afford, so be it...But I dont care how much you mnay hate the job, when you see that phat **** check you get you'll be cheezin from ear to ear...
But seein as how I am in a major that interests me and I love learning about the law and governement, Im not worried about that happenin...I'll be in a career i love BANKING...Thats what Im lookin forward to.
I believe if you goin to college you will get paid good. My mother lives paycheck to paycheck and she isn't gettin paid anywhere CLOSE to what the avg. job that college graduates get paid. Actually, I'm goin into a profession (social work) that is said to be underpaid, but it's estimated that at the least, I'll be gettin 3x's more than her. What I'm gettin at is what do you consider a low income, or not getting paid enough.
i knew a guy who went to college for 6 years and came out making 27 grande a year...:???:

Ain't that a...
I'm gonna tell ya'll right now: a college degree aint all it's cracked up to be. I know SOOO many people who hold college degrees that cant break even at the end of the damned pay period. Why? They thought that piece of paper was all they needed to make it in the job force.

No offense,
But Im REALLy tired of college dropouts tellin us college students that we not gonna make money when we get out..Granted nowadays we do need professional and graduate degrees just to make DECNT salary's coming out of college, but having an education takes you MUCH FARTHER than not having one, and we can ALWAYS work our way up the corporate ladder to make the 6 figure salries we want. Nobody starts out on top. Yes I definitely know people who are very successful and all they have is a high school diploma, but thats a one in a million type thing. College IS everything its cracked up to be cause it gives you OPTIONS...something NON COLLEGIATES dont have.
Im done.

1st off: A college dropout doesn't go back to college....I'm going back soon.
Now that we got that cleared up, where did you see me write something that said that all college students/grads were gonna be unsuccessful? I said that I know too many college grads who can't find a decent job because they felt that their degree (and ONLY their degree) would take place of valuable experience that most employers of higher paying jobs are looking for. Internships/networking, etc. also has a big effect on landing a good job, especially in todays job market.

Not necessarily, because #1, success isn't always measured by a 100k/year salary, and #2, there are plenty of decent-paying jobs out there that DO NOT require a college degree. Somebody has to manufacture (and sell) that Lexus that Dr. So-and-So is driving. Somebody has to drive the truck that delivers those underwear that EVERYONE is wearing. Somebody has to dig and deliver the news that comes on TV every night.
There are PLENTY of honest and good-paying occupations that are overlooked by people, simply because the occupation doesn't scream "big $$$" behind it.
So let's not get our feathers too ruffled. I was just bringing up a point...
