SPINOFF: GDI or aspirant? Posted on 08-01-2005
ManifestDSTiny33

I was reading through some of the older and newer threads, and I was thinking about the use of the term "GDI". As PGPeripheryGirl expressed in another thread, some people view the term as harsh. I understand what the terms means (even though it is somewhat all-encompassing), and what the stereotypes that surround it are, but I was wondering {TO THE GREEKS.. ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS}... IS THERE EVER A POINT WHEN A GDI BECOMES AN ASPIRANT? ***DISCLAIMER: You are NOT obligated to respond. I was just hoping for some feedback***

GDI and prospect are basically the same thing. we also refer to GDI's as people who are not greek...even if they have no intrest in greek life. Now being that Im an AKA if i wanted to talk about some one who wanted to join a sorority other than mine...lets say she wanted to be a delta and i KNEW that she wanted to be a delta i would simply say "thats a delta PROSPECT" if i wasnt sure what she wanted to be or if she didnt want to be ANYTHING she would simply be a GDI. If that was a bit confusing I would break it down like this: lets say there is a girl named ...Jane Doe when speaking in a literal sense i would say JANE If i was talking about her like i really didnt care I would say HER/SHE lets equate "JANE" to the term "delta prospect" and "HER/SHE" to the term GDI. the term GDI is more general. DID THAT HELP?
AKAtude, you teaching like you got NEOs. It's OK if some questions are redirected back to another source or left unanswered.

First, I just wanted to say how funny it was to see my name in the beginning of this thread. Secondly, isn't AKAtude like the best teacher ever?! That was a darn good analogy TA, you're going to make an excellent mommy one day! Anyway, the reason I really think of GDI as kinda offensive: 1) gosh darn individual (the PG version) implies that there is a problem with being an individual, as in not being linked to a group... for whatever reason... that makes it a negative thing. 2) a friend of mine dropped Alpha and after I crossed he said I better not call him GDI and that some of the guys that actually crossed had called him that and it really **** him off. I suppose its more hurtful to someone who dropped, but its still like, I can't help that I'm not Greek... yet

As laidback stated, some things are better left unanswered, especially if they are incorrect/incomplete.
