Video Girls and the Video **** Posted on 10-16-2005

Karrine Steffans, a self-proclaimed Video **** said in her book, Confessions of a Video ****" that "The top reason a woman finds herself in a rap video, sprawled undressed over a luxury car while a rapper is saying lewd things about her, is a lack of self-esteem. I know it sounds like a cliche', but no one who values, loves, or knows herself would allow herself to be placed in such a degrading position..." While having a conversation with a friend, she said to me, "I can't watch videos anymore. If that is what men see is beautiful, then where does that leave me?" What do you all think of girls who are in music videos? There are some women who use music videos to reach higher plateaus, such as Melyssa Ford and Leila Arcieri, while some girls are just in it for the money and the recognition. Do you think that girls who let images of these women affect their self esteem need help or do you do agree with Karrine Steffans?

"if you don't dictate it, it will be dictated to you" just sums up what serpent said, which i agree with. i think that the problem is not in women being in videos showing skin, that's not new. but the problem is in women thinking that's all there is. i agree with serpent that it's very important to know who you are before you let someone try to tell you what to be. you only end up lost. i wouldn't be in a video, and yes i would like to see the nelly video where everyone is wearing sweats and t-shirts (not sweat thongs, not their little sister's t-shirt) and the video is still hot. but until that day i'll try to keep my hating down to a minimum. i just hate how there's such a wide range of beauty in the world and it has to get condensed down to one type. i mean, people don't even like one type of juice, why do we have to settle for seeing one standard of beauty day in and day out?
I also agree with you. They need to show a wide range of beauty in the media.

i think that it is a misconception that all men like these video chicks or females that let it show...i personally don't think of that as the most attractive look on a female. i think females should be confortable with theirselves and be theirselves, i take that over a thong totin female anyday...so they shouldnt let these women effect their selfasteem, cause we dont all want those type of chicks........i mean, when i see a chick weren skempy **** clthes, negative thoughts come into my head [i know its a stereotype to think that way]
