you know i've never seen a light skinned Black girl with long hair it was always weave akatude is the stereotypical aka only i'm not sure if that's her hair but anyways now anyone who is into reading should read some old book that actually documented aka's and their color struck inutations they WERE actually color struck and if you were not light enough you didn't get in i thought that was interesting because a myth came out to be TRUE of course it's different NOW but to KNOW that your org WAS discriminatory like that has to make u feel bad poor aka's

While I find the book deeply disturbing at times, I would recommend you all reading "Our Kind of People: Inside America's Black Upper Class" by Lawrence Otis Graham. The author discribes the history of several elite organizations (like the Boule, the Links, Greeks, etc.) and how individuals seeking membership into these orgs were ofen subjected to the "paper bag" test to determine whether they qualified for membership. I'm not attempting to say that this practice should be excused because it was commonly used at the time but I am asking (again).... what does that have to do with the topic posted?

Yes, it is true that colorism played a MAJOR part in ANY ELITE BLACK ORG BACK IN THE DAY. Key word "BACK IN THE DAY" and please don't just assume that AKA is the only Divine Nine Org that did such activities as the paper bag test. For all you "Delta-wanna-bees" thinking that DST was the "darker" org...THINK AGAIN and do some damn research. If you did you will see that the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. were also subject to the paper bag test and if you go through past yearbooks I guarantee that you wont be able to tell the Deltas from the AKA's just by face value. Secondly, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. does not ONLY take in "light skinned" females; there is so much variety of colors, textures, shades and even shapes of us. Yess change you are right that I am light skinned, with long hair and hazel eyes (which all are genetically MINE) but the fact of the mater is that "I am what I am." By you telling me that I am light skinned and a "typical" AKA, is that supposed to make me think less of my self? Or down play my nationality? I hope not...if so it isn't working. I always hated this colorist bull because its always the insecure people that that wanna tell someone how u "aint black enough" or you "need to get in touch with ur roots." I hate that people in HBCU's in general are always so quick to tell someone about their nationality and "Africanness." Some people just need to evaluate them self. I am soooo fed up with these stereotypes

Well, come down to the South and you'll see it. Change, I know what you're talking about. They say back in the day, AKAs used the 'Brown Paper Bag' and the comb test.
