What are your views of non pan-hell organizations? Posted on 05-18-2004
Soundcheck 1898

I just crossed into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc. (its a music fraternity for those who don't know) this past semester. I know how the atmosphere is in the AUC in regards to non-panhellinic organizations but how are they looked upon at other schools? Also what are your thoughts on being in mulitple fraternities. I know alot of my bruhs are both Sinfonians and part of other organizations as well including KKPsi and various pan-hells. Me personally i'm still interested in one particular organization but I don't think I'll pledge undergrad again. What are some of your thoughts?

Well, on Hampton's campus, a lot of the administration itself (including our president) belong to one of the pan-hell organizations. So, being in a non pan-hell (or all together non-greek 8) ) org can have its obsticles. Some people just don't know about the other organizations out there. Some people just don't want to know. I wouldn't join another org (unless it's the NAACP or something along those lines), because Swing is it for me. But I know one of my sisters also belong to TBS (the band sorority). I don't see a problem. Both orgs have different focuses and serve different purposes.

Non pan hell organizations can be pretty lame. (especially the band. they are so waaaack!) We don't take them seriously. APO is okay. At my school they pledge hard. And lots of people at my school are in non pan hell organizations and they are also members of the divine nine. Usually the non pan hell organizations are stepping stones to get into a "real" greek fraternity or sorority. Many of my friends are in Phi Beta Lambda (business fraternity), but they also want to be kappas, deltas, and akas. If one had to come before the other, the pan hell org would come before the non pan hell.

To each their own... personally my organization (and i'm sure Psi Deuce feels the same way), is no where near a stepping stone into any for any pan-hell. I've also spoken with quite a few that are both PMA and something else and I know for a fact PMA comes before their other organization (based off their actions not just talk). However, speaking objectively it may be a little different where you are because things to vary according to region. All i know is that I went as hard for PMA as i would have for any other org and i KNOW KKPsi cats down here go hard (i'm willing to say harder than most of the pan hell's in the area from the stories i hear... them ****'s crazy...) My question to you is why aren't they respected? Is it because of the people joining or because of the whole if it isn't pan-hell i don't care about it mentality?

What org do you belong to? No other org has had a big enuff pair to bring anything to Psi. Unlike letter wearers like ya self (if you even have letters...) we have a purpose and we fulfill it. Dont say who you belong to. You making a jack@ss out of yourself wouldn't make ya org. look good. As far as I'm concerned, you another GDI, a wannbe. Hate on somebody else and get off the net with that ish.

Yeah whatever. Are you saying that the orgs in the divine nine don't have a purpose? Are you kiddin' me? Maybe your org does have a objectives, but that does not mean that you are not wackk! I'm just stating the facts. People, and not just greeks, look at band/music fraternities as jokes. But if you like it, I love. And how am I making a **** out of myself? You made a **** out of ya self when you decided to become apart of that silly **** fraternity.

Just a quick comments in regards to the comments made by K-Slay. I don't hate on organziations just individuals within the org. No matter what, unless something happens nationally, i will have mad respect for all frats/soror pending the facts that they worked for theirs, have purposes and goals that they set out to accomplish, and actually try to accomplish them. If they do all of the above then I have no reason to hate. I just dislike the fact that whatever organization K-slay is in let him slide through the cracks. Yeah he may have pledged and went through the process but personally fam i think your reasons for joining were twisted and that you don't fully understand the concept of fraternity. If you did we wouldn't be having this convo. To be honest, I don't think your part of any org... but thats just me. Respectfully, #1 PMA-Xi Eta Spr' 04 I'm to grown for this... any thoughts on this from anybody else lol...

I know that one thing that I've learned or gotten stronger in from my organization is brotherhood. Not just internal brotherhood with my frat, but brotherhood amongst everyone that I encounter. I know that most people who pledged and gotten anything out of their "process" would never belittle another organization that is also trying to do positive. I know at Morehouse, the greek atmosphere is pretty tight in comparison to other schools because of how most students and admistration treat the school as a brotherhood or a fraternity. I have homeboys in various GLO, including Groove, PMA, and KKPsi. The people that hate on these organizations do it out of ignorance and don't understand the focus of that group. You can kind of think of different greeks as different churches, with pretty much the same goal, but different ways of reaching it. Some people place more emphasis on the way that a person entered than what he's actually doing while in the organization. If they're doing what they're supposed to be doing, you really can't knock them. If they're not, then don't mess with them. Can't we all just get along. lol. peace i'm out.
