welp, ladies, going to Spelman in the morning.
i'll try to come back with extra info. . .
like, "WHY DO YOU GUYS NOT GIVE SCHOLARSHIPS TO OUT OF STATE KIDS?!"
lol and lots of pictures. . .
I posted this in the high school seniors 2009 post, but I SHOULD'VE put it here. Anyways, I found out something really interesting about the ACT and SC...
The admissions director told us that they take all of your scores and pick the highest from each SUBJECT.
Like if you took the test got a
30 on Eng
22 on Math
29 on Reading
18 on Science
that's a 25
then if you take it again and get...
21 on eng
29 on math
33 on reading
26 on science
that's a 27
but they'll use the eng from the first time and re-average your score. (changing 27 to a 30)
and she also said if you don't get accepted early decision and you bring up a grade or do better on the ACT or do SOMETHING different from the first time you applied, call and they'll re-review your application.
there was SOOOOOO much stuff. :-)
okay, i had to keep reading over it cuz i was confused lol but thats great seems fair to me
lol. it is sorta confusing.
but let's see...(ion wanna make it too long)
she said they rarely have more than 540 freshmen. they DO give out of state scholarships. BUT out of 540 girls, only the best of the best (between 120-130 girls) will get A LOT of money. She said like 20 of the freshmen this year got the Bill Gates thingy. Also, the scholly's are constantly re-awarded so don't be so down if you don't get one immediately. The girls who get them don't always decide to enroll and they have to give the money to someone else.
she said the school is about sisterhood and the auc is your family. during orientation you get a spelman sister (upperclass girl) & a morehouse brother. I don't know if they're upperclass or freshman cuz she didn't state that. You know how people say, "Look to the left, Look to the right. At the end, those people won't be here" she said at Spelman they say, "Look to the left, Look to the right. Those are your sisters"
There is no curfew! There's male visitation & most freshman dorms have community bathrooms but they do have people who clean them.
Don't worry about the school being in the hood. It's fully gated and there are 30 police officers on campus 24/7 and emergency call boxes everywhere in case you need help. No one gets in the gate without id. She said she works there everyday and they ask her for it. lol Petty theft is about the only problem that they've had to deal with.
Uh...You can study abroad or do a domestic exchange to various schools. All you have to pay is SC tuition and transportation. Everything else is cool.
You have to maintain a 2.5 while at the school, but the faculty will catch you before you get that far. There are tutors and whatnot. And...just ask the rest cuz I don't know what else to say. :-)
omg this is sooooo exciting....idk if my parents will like the "no curfew" rule lol....eww community bathrooms, i guess i'll have to deal lol....but everything else is great i def. cant wait until ADIYL @ SC...did you ask her about that??
yes'm. i sure did. lol
she said there's plenty of info about being a spelmanite, but it's betta than our meeting because you'll be AT SC.
You spend the whole day there. Eating in the caf, you may visit a class or something, they'll talk to the parents, you'll meet some students...uh. That's it.
The Spel-bound thingy is a weekend where you stay on campus and pretty much do "some" of the stuff life ADIYL.
You can check out the site to see a sample iteneray from last year's ADIYL.
and she said community baths aren't that bad! the suites the ones you get upset with. She said there are janitors to clean for you in cb's. but in the suites everyone is responsible for themselves and there are some NASTY people! lol
oooooh & you can't have mini-fridges and whatnot. there's a full kitchen on each floor of the dorms. i ain't too sure about that. cuz I'd be sad if someone at my food i put in the shared fridge. :-(
i want to. my mama said the meeting helped her feel better bout SC cuz she was NOT for it. now she's thinking bout taking me to ADIYL, but who knows.
and NAH! no microwaves. They're already in the kitchens. And then she STRESSED what I asked the other day...DON' T BRING A FRIEND...lol
I'm still bringing my friend tho. If we think it won't work, we'll switch.
And if you haven't sent your rec's. WAIT!
She said last year, girls had to WAIT A LONNNNG time, because their stuff got scattered. Ya know how it says give your teacher the envelope so they can send it? She says you CAN do that, but it makes it harder. Instead, ask the teachers/counselors if they can give YOU the rec's back so you can mail them together with the sig. page, and the fee waiver, and any other stuff. THEY TRUST THAT YOU WON'T CHANGE THE TEACHER'S WORDS AROUND. lol
and you can send up to 5 other rec's if you think you need em. :o
i was gonna send the rec's my self anyway and i got 4 teachers to write one already lol....thats good we can send in more than 2 rec letters
well i cant wait until ADIYL im gonna make videos of everything; the hotel, the city, of course SC and CAU....random: im glad that ATL has two locations of my fav. restaurant lol
