Profanity...What's The Purpose? Posted on 07-19-2007
C Nels

If you browse the forums, you see profanity being used in almost every thread. I'll push the envelope and say at in least 90% of them. What is the purpose of using profanity? Does it help you convey your point any better? Is it because you have a limited vocabulary? Is it because it makes you feel "bigger" than you really are(intimidation factor)? Can you hold a decent conversation without using profane words? Can you go a day without cursing? Better yet, can you eliminate profanity entirely from your speech for the rest of your life? Can anybody tell me? What's your take on profanity?

When is it perfectly fine to express urself using profaniy? Example: your're walkin around your house with no shoes on, u turn tha corner n hit ur baby toe on tha corner of tha dresser. MOST PEOPLE( but not Sister Tamara) would yell out S.H.I.T! while hoppin up n down in pain. Is this unacceptable?

Well, did that cursing actually help to get rid of the pain? Think about what you are saying? There is NO perfectly fine way to express yourself with cursing. Now if you slip up and say a curse word you need to be repenting and ask God for forgiveness. What has happened to people not having reverence for God? If you think it is perfectly fine to curse, you might need to reexamine your relationship with God. Are you a saved individual? Do you know where you are going to spend eternity? These are important questions you need to ask yourself. You don't have to answer these questions to me, but you will have to give an account to Jesus for every idle word that was spoken on judgment day. So it is best for you to judge yourself before Jesus has to open up the books and question you about everything you have done on this earth including cursing! Cursing is a serious matter and shouldn't be taken lightly! I know when I first received salvation, cursing was the first thing I got rid of! It just didn't feel right to curse because it grieves the Holy Spirit. So cursing was the first thing I got rid of.

I'm not getting into a religious debate with anyone, but some people are naive to certain things. There is a reason why people have been drawn to this thread. It might be that they didn't know what they are doing is wrong. I am NOT the type of individual who sugar coats anything. Jesus isn't either. If you read through out the gospels of Jesus, he was always getting people straight in the error of their ways. Like I said before I am not the judge but people will have to answer to Jesus. It surprises me that you would agree with cursing and you have a scripture tagged on your signature. So don't try to confuse people, if you are Christian then stand up and be one, and not side with the foolishness of the world. Make a decision who you are going to follow: The devil or Jesus. It shouldn't be that hard of a decision, because we know the devil has already lost and he is going to the lake of fire. So don't let him drag you with him! Just a thought!

Dont ever come at me like that you on your lil holier than thou trip no one is perfect and if we were there would be no point for us on this earth. I simply said respect peoples opinions im not going to lie and say i dont curse because its a fact that i do on occasions (and i am far from a **** mouth) is it right no is it wrong who is to judge that and i no its certainly not you and last time i checked Jesus welcomes all so if me cursing is a hellish thing thats going to send me straight to hell above all of the other things people do in your opinion ur are totally mistaken. You have nothing to say about me because i curse i shouldnt read the bible i shouldnt quote it are u serious. You are in no position at all to judge me on the internet of all places you are a grown woman im 17 and your over here acting out like your a saint. Listen i said nothing disrespectful to you so i dont expect you to come out the side of your face with me like that i live my life the way i want and you are not the Jesus himself to come down and tell me what i am. And btw if you read the bible so well you would no NO SIN IS GREATER THAN ANOTHER and we sin daily which makes you no higher than me since i curse. Maybe you need to go read the bible maybe Songs of Solomon or Proverbs so you can get your mind right and learn how to talk to people. You dont know where im coming from so have nothing left to say to me continue condeming people but please dont say nothing else pertainin to me, i appreciate it.

Like I told you before, and I'm saying it again because obviously you do not understand. I said that I wasn't the judge, Jesus is. Go back and read my previous post. Obviously you are feeling convicted because why such an outburst of anger? Like I said before if you have slipped up and cursed or any sin of that matter you need to confess and ask God forgiveness and repent. You shouldn't practice ANY sin on a habitual basis! Yes, Jesus came for people who were not perfect, but he expects you to strive for perfection and not practice a life of sin. I did not say not one time that people are perfect, but you shouldn't PRACTICE a life of sin! That's the difference! Once you know better you are supposed to DO better! Maybe you aren't understanding what a discussion topic is for. I have every much right to state my opinion, whether you like it or not! So on that note, you might not need to read or post on these discussions because you obviously do not know the purpose of them. I thought that HBCU Connect were for college people and I didn't know that it was meant for high schoolers! Maybe you are too young to relate or have a opinion! As the saying goes...If the heat is too hot, stay out the kitchen!

Many people curse for different reasons. True enough I slip up all the time, but alot of it comes from my upbringing because that is what I was around. I can now say that I've grown alot but I can deal with alot being said.
