basically i just want an honest opinion about the schools. im thinking about applying to those schools and more for fall of 2009 but i just want to get some insight into the schools. any tips about admissions? how are the professors, the classes, the people, the dorms, the social scene,etc. also just a couple pros and cons of the school. hope im not asking for much.i just wanna get to know more about the schools other than what i read or see on their websites.=]
sincerely, lost in DC.=]
As long as you keep your GPA up and have decent SAT scores you'll get in. A score of 1160/1200 or higher basically means your golden. Having a really nice essay wont hurt either. Spelman's food is subpar but you can always find something around ATL. There are a ton of parties. I did an overnight and my hostess' room was covered with flyers and posters. When I joined the Spelman 2012 facebook group, I got 10 requests from party promoters. I highly doubt that anyone could have a poor social life. When it comes to financial aid, SPELMAN IS HORRIBLE! Only a select few get scholarships. If you're seriously contemplating spelman start searching for scholarships now. I got a full ride at Howard and NOTHING at Spelman. Fortunately, I got an out of school scholarship. I hope the college process doesn't stress you out. I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
-->o wow.ok so i was just doing some research on Xavier U. of Louisiana and i could definitely tell that its awesome as far as preparing students for medical school. but the thing is what if i decide not 2 go 2 med school b/c me and physical sciences aren't the best of friends however i really wanna do something in the field of health and i enjoy the concept of it.i just hope i can make it through and end up enjoying what i do. also the thing about Xavier is that its in Louisiana and im a little discouraged after Katrina. discouraged because id be afraid of a repeat, there's a lot of devastation and under-developed areas..etc. guess we'll see.
-->i cant believe Spelman didn't offer u financial aid. its well endowed. maybe they felt as if u didn't really need it.who knows.they better give me some dinero (money)lol
-->u said a score of " 1160/1200" on the SAT, thats out of 2400 right?omg those aren't high expectations. i took my SAT for the first time a couple months back and got a 1500 and i hardly studied. off course i have to take it again after i take prep classes=]
maybe im just ahead of myself.its just that i like to plan things out and if i have doubts about 1 thing my whole plan is thrwn out of balance.=[
ne who: congrats on your acceptance! mayb i'll see you on campus fall of 2009.lol=]
omg! im syked out about CAU!but yea.that whole pre-med problem is giving me doubts.im not even sure if i want to go into the pre-med program. im not a big fan or bio and ne of the physical science but i ultimately love the career choice (i want to either be a psychiatrist or a physician) however my first love will always be psychology the only problem is that the salary isnt the best.=[
-->y do they find their classes challenging? (just curious)
-->i guess i'll have 2 find a way to learn more about their pre-med program b/c just incase i decide to change my career goal or major i want my next choice to be available.
-->overall i guess its a good school.all i have 2 do now is schedule a visit.
-->this process is sooo hard! i dont want to choose a school thats not right for me. and there's no way to tell until i experience it. i want a school that's live,that knows how to throw **** parties but thats academically excellenet and rigorous, want the people to be cool n mature and i want the area to be filled with malls and stores and people!lol.mayb im asking for too much.=]
1)not sure but i know some of the professors are makig sure their putting in work... overall the courses you take at tuskegee you'll find are intellectually stimulating
2)are u talking about nursing?
3)naw ur not asking for too much but u gotta know what ur gonna get... anywhere u go people are gonna be people...but yea best advice is to visit for yourself

no not nursing.im thinking about going 2 medical school to either become a psychiatrist, pediatric physician, or an OB/GYN
-->im gonna apply for all the schools i listed on the title except for mayb clark, i might also apply for Xavier.who knows.lol
-->thanks for all your help!!=]
I meant to say that a score around 1200 out of 1600 would guarantee you admission . It's not super easy to get into spelman lol. The acceptance rate was about 33% last year. I'm sure you'll do fine though. Good Luck!

Well Ill give you some stuff that Ive picked up...
Well my Fisk financial aid package was better than the other HBCUs I applied to but thats just me personally. I did get some loans, but no an outragous amount like some other HBCUs tried to give me. They also have endowed scholarships (scholarships from alumni) that you can apply for if you need some extra money.
They are is pretty nice. Its the capitol so there are things to do. I heard the mall was good, though I havent eeen there yet. Theres TSU, Vandy, and a couple other schools around so Im sure theres plenty of things to keep you occupied.
The pros are its a small school so you really get to know the professors and admistration and they really look out for you and are willing to help. I know I was on a first name basis with the Dean of Admissions and they really helped me choose Fisk over Howard. I think Fisk is like one big family, all the upperclassmen go out of there way to make you feel welcome.
The biggest con for your freshman year is that there is a midnight curfew everyday. I mean its gets taken off for events and parties on campus, but it forces you to really get to know they people in your dorm and to get them stellar grades your freshamn year. But after freshamn year theres no curfew. This isnt really a con to me, but it may be to some people - theres no cable. Its 30% males, or around there, well if you consider that a con too lol.
As a freshamn female you will be staying in Jubilee Hall, its historic and the rooms look pretty roomy. From the pictures ive saw they look nice. You can have a fridge in your room so thats a plus cuz some schools say you cant. Theres a kichen area with a microwave and its air-conditioned which is a plus.
The pre-med program at Fisk is good. They have this 3 year program where you can go straight to Meharry Medical College and get your medical degree after 3 years at Fisk. If your not farmilar its a histroically black medical school and its across the street from Fisk. The Psych program is good also, a lot of people seem to be in the program.
Well I did my best, hope it helps you out!
