its gonna sound really corny, but students from HBCU's are like families for real..like everytime an Alumni comes to my job or whatever, we both get all excited, like we family. HBCU's are obviously more crunk also. To our professors we are more then a face, were a name (well, for me)...hmmm....more later..
to clarify for Tya...I wasnt discrediting any PWI. I was merely talkin bout my HBCU experiance...u know what they say bout those that protest 2 much Aunt Edna...
I've visited both hbcu's and pwi, and also have friends and family members that have attended both, I attend a pwi and i can say that even vistiting the two types of campuses is a very different experience. Nothing compares to being around hundreds even thousands of african americans with the common goal of bettering oneself through education. Nothing compares to being taught and mentored to by those who understand your struggle. So although i am going to a pwi becausemy parents wanted me close to home, i very much so wish i could go to a black college. My school is small and it does have a family feel and the teachers and administrators do care about each student, but it isn't the same as being at a school where your no the minority. My cousin transfered to CAU from San Diego State, and raves about how much different the environment is and how much more pride is instilled in each student, and says told me that the two are in mo way comparable to each other
