Imma Military....Brat Posted on 07-08-2004
DEEliciouS

Ok...who up in here grew up or was raised as a "military brat"? How can u explain growing up like this? Did u like it? Hate it? How did u adjust to new places and new people? Where do u tell people ur from? Ok as for me....my dad was in the Navy for 27 years (dayum) and he jus retired this past May. I can truly say that i would NOT like to raise my children like this. Yes being a military brat has its pros: visiting new places........, but other than that i didnt like it. I developed the mindset at a very early age-dont ever get too close to somebody cuz either u or them can up and leave one day.It was alright seeing new places and taking roadtrips n shyt....but moving every 1-2yrs, new schools, new neighborhoods-new states, no family-It can be devastating. On top of that, having ur parent gone for days-weeks-months (my dad missed the births of both my brothers due to his deployment), can do some damage too. I understand that someone has to fight for this...country....but dayum. I hardly ever got to see my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins-due to us moving all the time and how far away we are from them. But since i have been in the state of VA the longest-i claim it to as to where im from, even though i was born n raised (for 2yrs) in that DirTy dirtY (Birmingham, AL). Ok im done......sorry this is an off the wall post.......i jus be typing mad stuff late at nite. 8)

Hey I'm an Air Force military brat! Most of my life was spent in charleston, south carolina. But my high school years we moved to Yokota, Japan. And my parents are still there, and i visit for the summer and christmas. I love being a military kid (also in AF rotc at TU) with traveling and living on base helps you meet friends and know people. The down fall is that eveyone is always moving away. But anyway when ppl ask me where i'm from, i say japan. Cause my home is still there and it's the place where i grew up for real. Its in high school that u decide what u want to do with ur life and who u are. And agreeing with the other "brats"...being in the military doesn't make u rich especially if your parents are enlisted and not officers. And the living conditions kinda based on the service. No offense but i've never seen a nice army base and the air force ones tend to be the best taken care of

I loved being an army brat because i liked seeing new places and faces, I think the one thing that I enjoyed the most was that my best friends parents alwyas got stattioned someweher near us so I ws never really alone. Our parents would take turns keeping us so that we could gpo to the same schhols and have a close connection. Born; Fayetville N.C. Moved to Killen/Ft Hood tx in '88 stayed there till 94 went ot Germany and slpit Between Germany and Spain from 94 til 99 Moved to Ft Stuart GA 99 Visited ft Gordon Ga also mom retired moved to Dallas now i Go to school in La. But I've been to Chicago, Denver, Boulder, Oklahoma/Ft Sill- California, Japan and Jamaica(visiting a family member on deployment.)

i feel bad for military brats, cause my cousin is one and both her parents were in the military and her mom still is. her dad she hasn't seen in a while. and her mom she has lived with on and off cause her mom gets sent overseas alot. she just came back from Iraq and was there for about 7 months. she has lived with my grandma most of her life and i know she wants to live with her mom but doesn't want to leave my grandma. it's hard and i just don't know how they do it.

Yeah, I hate it too. I swear it's like if one thing ain't messed up or broken then its another. The post we're stationed at now is just now tryna fix up the place after me and my fam have lived here for 8 yrs., but we won't be here to enjoy it cuz we're movin to VA. So what part of the military is your mom or dad in? Can't remember if you said that already or not? My dad is in the army.
