I wanna go to Hampton U. next year and I am hearing about a dress code there. I heard that all the boys have to wear suits with ties and the girls have to wear business suits all the time. Please say this isnt true cause I dont mind getting dressed here and there but all the time in a suit isnt me. I gotta have my RocaWear and fitteds.
whoa..whoa..whoa those are strong words "**** attire"...for shame HU students sounding like a PWI or sum'n i mean i understand the rules of the school and their attempting to mold us into professionals..HOWEVER..the responses were terrible letz recap...
***and i don't even wear du-rags or wife beaters for fashion BUT..Innocence

yea.. i know this is all poorly worded but i'm tired so i don't really care and i'm workin on my...Howard essay so i'll holla
Let me clarify, since u choose 2 take offense. Hampton University costs 23,000+ to attend. If you want to rock a wifey and a fitted, stay in high school. Yeah they are a part of our "urban subculture" but your matriculation here at Hampton is supposed to prepare you to fit in with the "real world" and in that world, fitteds and wife beaters are not attire productive with successfyl ventures. When was the last time you saw anyone attend any type of casual business function in a wife **** :?:
See, what you fail to realize is that Hampton produces men and women. Hampton men and women to be precise. There are non like us; to my Hamptonians, what do you call one of us after graduation? The women here want men, not thugs and not someone who cannot represent themselves outside of the typical b-boy wannabes.
There's a reason that we produce such outstanding students and alumna and that is because of our standards, the preparation that this school provides for you to fit in with the "white world." No matter what subculture you mold yourself to be, if you cant fit in with the majority then you have a problem.
As far as rolling with jeans and a white tee, you'll fit right in with the "white t-shirt mafia" if that's what you want or you could dress up in khakis and a poloshirt. However, wifeys and hats arent allowed outside of your dorm, and like I said, it's too dayum cold and whats the point of using a wave cap if you're not going to show your waves, and hats arent permitted in buildings.
Personally I say why mold yourself to the rest of "pop culture?" To me that shows a lack of individuality and self worth if you have to feed into the stereotypical BS that is plastered around. With that said, I am out.
lol i understand that but i can understand not wanting to dress "business casual" every day too...soo i just put it out for my manz who luvz the rocawear fitteds and just 2 state how it wuz gonna take some gettin used 2 for me cuz i love my KC fitted it reps where i came from b4 i move 2 va. 2 go 2 Hampton
BTW i saw a guy at Hampton wit my KC fitted n blue tall tee look when i came for the open house...hurt my feelingz the only time i EVER saw someone wearin' it besides me
lol got off track but ehh...nutha post
like I said, you can dess however you want. Business attire is not sumthin u need every day. I wear jeans and a t-shirt to class somedays, polo shirts and boot cut jeans the next. 8)

I feel you 100% percent on this whole "dress code" thing...But dont you ever! EVER! EVER! feel ashamed that you are writing an ESSAY to attend the REAL HU!!! Remember that! It is quite alright that you got accepted to Hampton or whatever. But writing an ESSAY for Howard or doing something in your favor for you to attend Howard is HELLAGOOD<---a little bit of Cali for you!.....KEEP YA HEAD UP !!!
i been wantin' 2 go 2 Hampton since the 8th grade tho.. ..i'm so confused now
...and i still have not received my OFFICIAL acceptance letter...they said it would come the 15th
^^^ just a lil note... Hampton is always a little late on most things because of their new computer systems....so you should stay on top of them at all times!!
But as far as the dress code is concerned... If you honestly think about it.. we really dont have one that is extreme. I mean you can wear whatever you want, as long as its acceptable wear. For example, you can wear all the white tee's you want. You can even wear fitteds, outside. But, when it comes to making presentations or somthing like that, you are REQUIRED to wear proper business atire. Which makes a whole lot of sense, considering most professions require business atire everyday!!!!
But to prospective Hamptonians dont get turned off by dress code policies, especially when it comes to business casual atire. Most majors dont dress up everyday. I know I have only dressed up twice this year and that was for my recital and a jury (for music majors)
And dont be fooled... you will see more sweats and t-shirts walking around campus than suits and dresses!! TRUST ME!!!
