Around the table Posted on 07-11-2004

Sooo..I was chillin outside with a friend of mine around 6-6:30pm when she got up and said she had to leave for dinner. I was kinda shocked because i didnt think that many families still sit around the table for dinner...My family used to, but it stopped. And when it did, I noticed a big change, referring to how close we were and how distant we are now.Now that I live with my father (and he's usually at work) we dont sit and eat together. Now after homie came back, we got into this discussion on how a lot of families dont sit down and talk like they used to and that's why so many black families have been and are falling apart...I wanted to know,do you guys still sit around the table and actually have conversation with your fam?or does everyone go off and do their own thing??and do you believe families grow apart because of this?

we used to eat around the table every night when i was little. then my dad started working the night shift, my brother moved out, and my mom started acting like cooking was against her religion....

My family still sits around the table and eats dinner together, especially when I'm home from school. That seems to be a rarity these days because many people have said that I have that cosbyesque family. as long as their is some activity everyone does together, the family will not grow completely apart.

Yes the times are a changing. People in my house aren't even home at the same time. and if we are everyone eats in their room ( easier and faster to take care of n!ggitis)

During the school year, especially on Mondays, eating together wasn't possible. Now the only reason why we eat dinner together is because my mama doesn't want anybody eating anywhere else in the house. If it were up to me, I would eat in the living room, but clumsy me would probably waste something!

Depends with my family...we might go off on a tangent one night and want to sit and eat and talk with the whoel crew at the same table. Hell...sometimes we might eat while watching something we all want to see on TV. We bond like that more than some families now-a-dayz but a hellova lot less than back in the day.
