I will be a freshman this coming fall (thats right '04), hopefully at Hampton. I have a problem with living with people. I hate loud music , uncleanliness, late night hours, and other stuff that might not bother other people bothers me. I was wondering if in college especially HBCUS
Do the students play loud music?
If you are a clean person then how do/did you deal with messy roomate?
Are there times when everyone has to be quiet?
Are the bathrooms clean and usable?
Personally, I've encountered people that had absolutely no respect for themselves on campus, much less respect for you. They are gonna play the music loud (don't even think about askin them to turn it down...all hell breaks loose then!), some people are invade your privacy, "borrow" your stuff and won't think anything about it. I've even had a roommate that would do stuff JUST to tick me off. So, if don't think you are going to be able to deal with stuff like that on a DAILY basis, you may want to consider stayin off campus.
You guys make me nervous about living in a dorm. But don't you get to meet people through living on campus. And if anyone knows, how is it at Hampton or Spelman?
Hampton's dorms are not that bad depending on where you stay. Generally, in the freshman dorms there is a dorm director (more like a dorm mom) that you can go to if there are any major problems (loud music playing, unsanitary conditions, etc.). There are also RAs that are on each floor to help. The best thing to do to minimize any problems with your dorm mates is to simply get to know them. There will be plenty of opportuinity for that during freshman orientation and during the few weeks curfew will be in place.
