do you have to pay dues in you frat/soro?? Posted on 08-04-2004

I was doing some research on AKA's, and I noticed something about "re-activation fees" which leads me to believe that if you don't pay some kinda dues, you're out....but then if u want back in you gotta pay. Maybe I got it twisted... Do you have to pay dues in the frat/soro you're in, and is this like, a normal thing , or just AKA's?

Pepsi, it's just plain old common sense to observe and research rather than coming out the mouth with a bunch of dumb ish. And no I haven't forgotten what it was like to not know enough about the org I was interested in. That is precisely why I say the things I do. When I knew nothing, I researched. I didn't come out my face all Jessica-like and stuff. And neither did plenty of other people. It is not a good feeling to see this girl behave this way. I pity her. I say things in a sarcastic manner or with jokes, because that is a part of my personality. BTW, are you Greek? Do you even know proper protocol yourself? If you are not Greek, what can you really say about how I am handling this situation. This girl is trying to live the life that other Greeks and I live. She's not trying to live amongst you GDIs too much longer. So allow me, other Greeks, and knowlegable GDIs to respond accordingly.
I DONT HAVE TO B GREEK TO KNO HOW U TREAT A PERSON SO DONT GET ALL HIGH AND MIGHTY WITH ME.... FOR GOODNESS SAKES THE GIRL IS IN H, U ACT LIKE SHE IS ABOUT TO RUSH RIGHT THIS INSTANT. OK AND U SAYING ITS COMMON SENSE TO RESEARCH, MAYBE THIS IS HER IDEA OF RESEARCHING...ASKING OTHER GREEKS...HMM...MAKES SENSE TO HER OBVIOUSLY.... AND I WASNT SAYING HOW SHE WENT ABOUT IT WAS COOL, BUT JUST THAT IT SHOULDNT GET TO U CUZ SHE DOESNT KNO ANY BETTER. CHILL OUT
   You CLEARLY are missing the point..I gotta agree with Carlene. We need a lock on this post.

Ummm.. greeks who are on this page.. I REALLY think that y'all should make a stickie out of the "SO you wanna join a frat" thread or at least start one that says "B4 you post, READ THIS".... at least give some ground rules.. that way, it would be the first thing that newbies see when they come to the forum.. that way, if there isn't already an answer to their question, they can find a means of obtaining that answer w/o offending/insulting your organization..... Pepsi was right when she said that not e'rybody knows (although I believe that e'rybody should learn the hard way, and if they don't get dissuaded by the responses, then perhaps they should pursue Greek Life) but on the same token, if they are able to read the responses to their thread, then they should be able to read other threads.... A lot of stuff just requires deeper digging... so.. that is my 2 cents, and have a nice day... btw, Pepsi.. they'd be just as **** them if they made a dumb post on the other forums.. it's just that there are fewer people on this forum so it is hecka concentrated
yea u right..i guess that makes it ok huh..... i only reacted the way i did cuz i remembered when i didnt kno those things even tho it makes perfect sense...and nobody even mentioned the part where she askes about re-activation fees...plenty of people dont kno about that stuff fucc common sense.... but anywayssss....lock it up this is done

I believe that it was a logical question that Samia asked. She asked a question that she truly didnt know the answer to. In HS, I didnt have to pay dues for all the orgs that I was involved in. We as college students shouldn't assume that everyone knows what we have learned while being in college. I am not greek affiliated but u dont have to be greek affiliated in order to know the proper way to treat people. :?

^^^(before this is locked) I agree with you. She asked a question. All she needed was an answer (and I believe the reactivation part of her question was still left unaswered :? ). I just don't think that people get that some people just don't know ANYTHING about these type of organizations. I mean dang.....sororities and fraternities are not prevelent or even noticable everywhere. Hell, the only thing I knew about these orgs were that you could join one when you went to college I didn't even know that there were orgs targeted to the uplifting of African Americans (or at least that's their initial purpose). We all come from different areas and different backgrounds. What might seem like "perfect sense" to one person might be unheard of to another person. And the little "just research" response I constantly see is getting really old. What do you call an anonymous person asking questions about sororities and fraternities on an internet forum doing :?: ......... ..........sounds like a form of research to me. Besides, the way I see it, the less people know about your org the better. The reason so many "GDIs" (<--I think this term is dumb) know so much about these orgs, the "process" (yeah, I know.....what process  ) and the "proper protocol" (<--I think this phrase is dumb too) is because of some people on the ohter side who run their mouths. Loose lips sink tight ships :| Geez......I'm reading this thing and don't see why it went on for 2 pages. The first person to respond already answered one of her questions (and quite nicely may I add). Unless someone wanted to touch on the reactivation part, I just don't see what the point of their reponse was......unless it was what someone else stated: you wanted to make someone else feel dumb and everybody else laugh, so you can feel good about yourself......so much for the uplifting :?

I didn't say you had to be Greek. There are knowledgable GDIs on this board as well. Obviously, you don't fall into that category. And true research requires watching and reading as well. This girl keeps asking dumb quetions. How in the hell can you not know that you don't pay dues???? You pay dues in high school clubs. Why would international organizations not require the same? How bout, you chill out. We are all handling this quite well, thank you. We don't need no damn rainbow bright , kum ba ya muhfuggas like yourself telling us how to handle this. If she can't even take constructive criticism on a message board, how the hayle will she be able to get thru a pledge process??? Can you answer that?

Well I guess Jessica Simpson doesn't look so dumb to other blondes. Dayum! Why can't people understand that a dumb question gets the type of answers that she received??? How in the hell can an international organization run without dues? That's just plain old dumb not to know you have to pay dues. Hell, I was in the C.A.B. club, which is a club that we made up when we were about 7. Even we paid our quarter. Damn, y'all. Y'all know this girl is stoopid. Quit trying to pretend otherwise. Like I asked the Pepsi chick, how in the world can she successfully get through a process if she can't even take a little heat on a message board?

I think she handled the "heat" (whatever that's supposed to mean :? ) on this message board quite nicely. She came back, said her piece, and went on about her business. You, on the other hand, actually took the time out to answer her question (which was already answered) in a manner YOU sought fit to. Like I said before, the first person who answered her question did so in a different manner. Maybe it's because they can answer questions in a professional manner, or perhaps they can grasp the concept that SOME PEOPLE JUST DON"T KNOW (I don't know how many times this has to be said  ....so I'll use a combination of caps and bold this time). Again you put in your repsonse one of YOUR life experiences. That's odd considering that everybody has not been through the same experiences as you.....which kinda leads back to the "some people just don't know" statement (hopefully, there's no need to bold it again). If you're not told about it, don't experience it, or don't ask about it (*ding, ding, ding  *), you won't know about it (<--very simple concept to grasp). Not every high school org requires it's members to pay dues....I know none at my hs did (being a public school, they were funded by the city). Then again, much like college, not everybody in hs belongs to an org. If you just felt like making clever little Jessica Simpson jokes on her thread, then just say so. Don't try to make your rude remarks seem like they were necessary by aligning them with a pledge process (which I could have sworn was disband a while ago :? ). The reality is: She's not online. You're not her big sister. She just asked a question.
