Stereotypes Posted on 10-14-2004

I've heard so many different stereotypes, and obviously there is no truth to a lot of them. I just want to hear from some of the Greeks on here, what stereotypes about your own organization or other organizations have you found to hold some truth? That is, if ya'll can speak on it.

besides it's all about quality over QUANTITY!!!
This would also be a stereotype...that a small group equals quality and a large group does not. It is possible to have quantity AND quality. It is just as easy to have group of 3 people that are a hot mess as it is to have 30.
However my organization, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc represents "quality over quantity" among other things. What I meant by it when I posted it was that my organization is not trying to have a large amount of girls in our organization (if that was the case, we would have interest meetings, we would just let everyone join that was interested in being in a sorority) . Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. looks for ladies who are TRULY interested in all principles and standards that Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. stands for and ladies who can continue the legacy that my founders left for me and my soRHOrs to uphold, "Scholarship, Service, and SISTERHOOD". And that ma'am is a FACT, not a stereotype. If I'm not mistaken, Zeta Phi Beta has the same opinion about "quality over quantity". If I am mistaken, my bad.
Who tried to assign a stereotype to Sigma Gamma Rho? Certainly not me. Just because an organization is large does not mean that they just let anybody in. As a college-educated and reasonable woman I would hope you would understand that. What organization within the Divine 9 does not stress that they want quality members? It's obvious that you are inferring that AKA and DST want quantity over quality. However, let it be known again that just because AKA has more members than SGRho doesn't mean that AKA values quality any less. You can go to any campus and find a line of 4 people that aren't as "tight" as they should be. And that madam, is also a fact.

calm down ya'll The purpose of the thread wasn't to argue over stereotypes, just to bring em to light...cuz stereotypes are just that....stereotypes, so you will always have exceptions to what people think are the "rules"

First and foremost, I could care less if you were assigning a sterotype to Sigma Gamma Rho, because I know what my organization stands for and I don't really take offensive to someone who is clueless about my organization's principals. Nobody said just because an organization is large that they let anyone in expect for you. What I said was if my organization was trying to have a large number of girls in the organization, we would not have interest meetings, we would just let everyone join. Nobody said that AKA and DST want quantity over quality in their organization except for you. Obviously you have observed it wherever you live and felt like that's what they do. If not you wouldn't of said it. I sure didn't. The only thing I mentioned about another sorority was Zeta Phi Beta because I have heard some say as well "quality over quantity". If you wanted to be the one who says all that you have assumed me to be "inferring", then just say it. Nothing in my post says "AKA this and DST that". I don't give a flying flip about how any organization choose their members. You've clearly taken my words out of context. All I am saying is that Sigma Gamma Rho says "quality over quantity". Actually let me repost what I said: "However my organization, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc represents "quality over quantity" among other things. What I meant by it when I posted it was that my organization is not trying to have a large amount of girls in our organization (if that was the case, we would have interest meetings, we would just let everyone join that was interested in being in a sorority). And that ma'am is a FACT, not a stereotype. " I honestly do not care about anything else any other organizations do except for my own, except for the fact that I hope that the Divine 9 are doing the most important purpose which is to educate and uplift the African American community. That ALWAYS comes BEFORE stepping, dissing, party hopping/strolling, breaking a sweat, being pretty, being ****, being whack, WHATEVER! I have no hatred for ANY Greek organization because we are here on college campuses with a task-at-hand that each organization's founders left their members, which happens to be somewhat similar across the board. But then again you must not have done your research on every organization...esp. mine. So before you come and test me on my own knowlegde about the sorority I have dedicated my life, maximum efforts and cooperation to, do your research and actually read my post. Realize I was only defending what my organization follows, and not trying to start no damn Greek war in here like you're trying to do by throwing in the AKA and DST B/S. And I hope you are that college educated and reasonable woman to understand what I just posted. FACT.

First of all, all my LS SigmaLayDee06 was sayin was that we are about quality not quantity, no one said that the other sororities are just the opposite. That is something that you conjectured so i hope your not tryin 2 pledge b/c u just said that they are not about anything. We never said anything about the qualities and morals of other organizations

I actually took the liberty to do what you said...do the research...it does say "quality over quantity" on SGRho and Zeta websites...the motto "quality over quantity" is used in other situations too in the real world, but I don't think that Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta say it to offend other organizations....

That should sum up the content of the thread. Stereotypes is just that...stereotypes. Last time I checked, upholding stereotypes wasn't any of the principles of any of the Divine Nine.
