A friend of mine told me that you are never suppose to shake a delta or AKA's hand. She said that one time when she was introducing her self to one of them and she reached out to shake their hand they just stood there and looked at her like she was crazy. what is the reason behind this? and is this looked down upon?
My previous comments were in regards to Interest Meetings.
Of course at a Mix and Mingle I will interact with folks.

Hmm i dunno....
I mean how would you be mis-leading them by shaking their hands?
I think they are MIS-leading themselves if they think " Oh she shook my hand so I'm in"...
Thats their fault for assuming....and if they ever came to me and said " Well you shook my hand....blah blah"...
I'd tell them ..." You know what people say about those who assume right?"
Which is why I don't shake hands at an interest meeting at all.
Don't start none, won't be none.

In some minds.
You'd be surprised at what people will do to earn cool points from members of organizations and other aspirants before, during and especially after an interest meeting.
In my mind it's less about them earning cool points from me or my frat. But moreso from those that they are going through whatever "process" with.

I REALLY don't think something as simplistic as hand shake means more than "hi...how r u?" Thats some of the problems we encounter with "Greeks" "Non-Greeks" "tryin to be down" and so on and so forth. Everything isn't about the organization at first glace.... u think maybe they were just being polite. So if people come to thee meetings and DON'T speak..are they not being rude??
Yes, that would be rude.
All I need an interest to do is to acknowledge my presence with a time appropriate salutation and sit down and take in this information.

This is kinda funny...
Why is that you are concerned about shaking someones hand? This is simple....you want to get down then you play the game.....I am not going to shake your hand....you want what I have and at an interest meeting you need to get know everyone in the room....They are not happy to meet you.....They are not sure if you are dime dropper or just trying to skate through....So just play the game.....
some of yall are just rude....
a hand shake is a part of good maners...
maybe i have been out of school too long...
but its not that deep...
its like speaking... Hello, how are you? smh
1994 is when i pledged
it is being rude.. but hey i am glad i dont want to join yall org's
or that i am in school any more...
i repsonded because i think some of you all are rude...
and this is a message board and i have every right do respond to what i want...

i am an alpha sweet from way back in the day
also member of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, Inc.
Beta Zeta Chapter at TUSKEGEE University
Kee-Koo to my fellow Sweets and Black and Old Gold Big Brothers
Wee-Oop to my sorors and frat brothers of Alpha Phi Omega...
In this thread INTRO 2 GREEKS 101
Did you just cross?
If not, last time I checked the NPHC included nine fraternities and sororities:
Alpha Phi Alpha
Alpha Kappa Alpha
Kappa Alpha Psi
Omega Psi Phi
Delta Sigma Theta
Phi Beta Sigma
Zeta Phi Beta
Sigma Gamma Rho
Iota Phi Theta
So that rules out Gamma Sigma Sigma.
Last I checked Iota Phi Theta was the only BGLO to nationally recognize Sweethearts.
So please inform me, and the huddled masses. Because I can't see it based on the information you've provided.
What makes you think you're D9?
